Unfortunately, we live in times when consumers are considered 'beta' testers, without being asked if they would care to be, which is why I never pre-order anything, regardless of previous reputation. We need to stop throwing our wallets at companies and start having expectations Until than, a good portion of early adopters out there will suffer a self inflicted pain

I had both and I would say not at all. There is nothing this new one does that the old one didn't do just as well. In my case, I'd say better. Though it's probably a very subjective statement. Given the choice again, I would've saved on that upgrade and spend the money on a different lens altogether. Don't know much about HD coatings, and what they really add to the basket, but my old 55-300 had no flare issues and perfect starbursts

This does look like some strange rendering enabled. By JPG settings I meant image setting - those that allow you to select rendering presets for the jpg engine. They are accessible via the pad at the back. On K3 it's the button on the right. Should be in the same position on the K5? The interface looks like that:




Just pick one of regular ones - so natural/landscape etc. Each individual preset can be further adjusted so I'd make sure these settings are at their defaults as well.

Might be easier to diagnose if you would post a pic showing the effect. Have you checked the JPG presets? I believe they have no effect on full auto mode but affect every other mode. Maybe something got swapped around accidentally in there?
