In one of the menus is an option along the lines of 'Allow use of lenses with aperture ring', which you need to select. This will let you set the aperture on the lens, and the body won't stop you taking the pic.
Someone here with a K100D will no doubt give you the right menu option to look for.

Hi Simon, and welcome to the forum..
If they fit, they'll work.. which is the good news. I'm sure you'll get a better explanation, but basically, switch to manual focus on the front of the camera, and set the dial to M for manual. Set the aperture on the lens and off you go.. ish. have a look through this thread, for a better idea.

It was called "Using aperture ring" in the Custom settings.

One is a SMC Pentax-M 50mm and the other is a Vivitar 80-200mm MC.
The problem is that when I put either lens on and turn the K100 on, all that happens is that "Av --" keeps blinking in the viewfinder and on the display LCD and I can't take any pictures.
My other lenses that work all seem to be VMC, could that have something to do with it?
Am I overlooking something, or can I never use these lenses with this camera?
