The K1000 is nice, but due to it's popularity it's quite expensive. The KM (a better camera, and much rarer) usually goes for less.

40 quid for a P30N? I think I paid around a tenner for mine, and I have a P30 that cost me 6.

I learned long ago to ignore the numbers at the end of camera reviews. They mean nothing to me.

For example, a camera might be marked down for poor manual control in video. I don't give a hoot about video, so this is totally irrelevant.

Conversely, some review sites don't care at much all about build quality, which for me is important, so I wouldn't want to buy a highly reviewed camera only to find it had mediocre build quality.

Read the text, pay attention to the parts that matter to you, and make your choice. Always ignore the final numerical score, if there is one.

You may be able to use the small grey straps already there. I'm amazed at the backpack not coming prepared for that, at that price.

The K3 is newer, which explains the higher price. I'd say it's also better.

I have started my fund to finally upgrade my K200D at the end of the year. If I were to upgrade now, I'd go for a K5 II at just under 600 quid as it has the improved AF and high ISO performance I'm looking for. I don't want or need the K3's 24MP, but the K5 II won't be available at the end of the year.

Anyone recall what price the K5 was at a year after launch? I suppose that would be a decent prediction of what the K3 will be come December.

The DA 70mm is a lovely lens, great IQ and small & light, plus it goes for good prices second hand. Being a limited, people tend to take good care of them. Unless you want the macro, I see no real reason to go for the Sigma.

An F or FA 50/1.7 is also very good for portraits, though noticeably shorter. Around half the price of a DA 70 though.

AF adjustment is necessary because of tiny variances in the tolerances of the body and the lens. It's just not feasible to manufacture such equipment to absolute perfection so AF adjustment serves to neutralise the differences.

I understand at least some Oly bodies read the serial number of the lens so they can even have different AF adjustments for different copies of the same model. I think that's the ideal setup.

I'm still using my K200D and haven't upgraded due to the loss of battery grip and upper LCD on the lower range cameras. I'm considering a change this year for improved high-ISO and more accurate AF, but I don't expect improved IQ at ISO 100 or a camera more pleasant to hold and use.

The K3 is currently at 983.77 on Amazon and 1049 on SRS, with free 35/2.4 (a better deal in my opinion).
