K3 price increase

Live in hope! If it is anything like the K5 I had to wait nearly a year before the price started to drift down. Pentax prices seem to stay high for longer than they should, not enough competition or volume in the market IMO. I cannot imagine a new buyer thinks the K3 is good value against the names they know and love!

Pentax pricing has been bizarre for years.
Being significantly more expensive than the closest equivalent Nikon is just stupid, IMO. I just don't get it. Especially since they don't put OS in any of their lenses.
It's certainly true that you can be perceived as too cheap, but they've never been in danger of that.

I guess Pentax can't take advantage of the economies of scale unlike can ikon. This woulda me pentax susceptible to price fluctuations due to any supplier price differences...

The pound is also increasing in value again causing imports to rise in cost...

An increase in value of the pound should mean a drop in the price of imports, but make exports more expensive. That's why currencies are devalued so as to reduce demand for imported items and make sales of exported items more attractive to overseas buyers.

Prices will naturally fluctuate based on various factors, but the trend will always be downward for a new body, don't worry.

The K3 is currently at 983.77 on Amazon and 1049 on SRS, with free 35/2.4 (a better deal in my opinion).

I am in the market for a new K3 body soon, & being a Pentax user for 40 years with KX, istds, K10, K5 & K-01 + 10 lenses. Ricoh recently announced that they were going to take a market share from the top 3 (Nikon, Canon & Sony). All 3 of these equivalents are quite close to the K3 on spec although I personally think the K3 has the edge on all 3, except for price!!. If Ricoh is intending to break into the top 3, they are going about it the wrong way with their pricing policy. I will stick with my K5 as my main camera because I am not prepared to pay these stupid prices. A lot of newcomers would change to one of the other 3 if they were starting up, but as I have a considerable investment in Pentax kit I will not change systems, but won't be buying the K3 at these prices. I hope that Ricoh are intelligent enough to realise that the market share they currently have will erode unless they come to their senses on price. They are currently around £200 higher than Nikon & Canon equivalents.
