As it's SDM you will have a very hard time finding a 2x AF teleconverter that will work properly
I though it also had a screw drive? have no experience with SDM, given it has both presumably it would "fail" to screw drive if a teleconverter was in place?
The lens gives information to the camera, through the contacts so if the camera knows the lens has a SDM than it will use that and there is no way to force it to use the screw-drive.
Because if you cover that contact the camera will think it's not an auto-focus lens at all so it will not use any means of AF

The only way is that the TC gives the information that it's AF but only the Pentax TC 1.7x AF does that as far as I know.
The Teleplus converters and all the rebadged clones with Pz-AF in the description all have the Powerzoom pin contact that supplies power to the SDM. Teleplus/Kenko 1.5x SHQ, 1.7x SHQ 2x MC7 and early Tamron 1.4x.
Used them all with SDM.

Hi Dave I think some of the later ones didn't have the PZ (Powerzoom contact) but if it says Pz-AF it should work fine, I had one for some time, wish I'd kept it now, really quite good 2x TC

Teleplus Pz-AF 2x MC7 element works well and you get full SDM support.

Probably the most critical of reviews:

The DA*300 is awesome BTW, never had any problems at f/4

It's not too shabby

Both shot at f/4 BTW

It's sharp wide open, but watch out for purple fringing in extreme conditions.

I used a Rocket Blower on the K20D screen, came up spotless.

Dust on the focusing screen shouldn't appear on your images, that would be dust on the sensor. Never touch the focusing screen wth your fingers or anything else, they're easily marked
