I have 4 batteries for my K5. The second Pentax battery cost me an arm and a leg. the 2 others are inexpensive Ebay batteries.
It seems to me, that i am one of the lucky ones. the Ebay batteries last as long as the Pentax types.
I have numbered them 1-4. every time I take an exhausted battery out of the camera, I replace it with the following number. This saves any confusion.
By the way, If you paid $7.50 or so on Ebay and the battery is a dud, just get another. You’re still way ahead in costs.

This camera is a no brainer, simple and quick.
I've lost count on how many years I have owned mine.
I just wish Pentax would come up with a manual digital "RAW" DSLR, without a menu to plod through, and leave us photographers to get on with the shot.

Exactly my sentiments. I could be quite inexpensive and one could drag it around without having to worry to much if it gets a scratch or ding.
Manual focussing and a split screen viewfinder.

I would fit my SMC-A 35-70 and thats it.

Well, I would like to see a FF. It is annoying for me, to need to multiply all the focal length of my lenses by 1.5.
This made my widest lens not so wide anymore.
Also, when using a 35mm lens as an equivalent 50mm lens,is there any difference between the curvature of field of the 35mm lens, compared to the 50mm lens on a FF?

How do I know on my existing lenses, which is the K and which is the KM lens?

Hi, thanks for all your comments.
it seems the majority of you think it helps, but the bit about the exposure metering worries me somewhat.

The first thing to check is that the eyepiece dioptre is correctly adjusted.
The eyepiece is correctly adjusted. First thing I did when I bought the camera.

I think I will order one of the Katz-Eye jobs on my next payday, end of ther month.

Thanks, Horst

When I am using my A_lenses, I have a problem defining the exact focus.
My previous cameras had a split screen prism. This helped a lot.

Question: Does fitting a split screen prism affect the autofocus?
If not, is it very hard to fit?

Why not take it one step further and put an electronically coupled explosive charge inside the camera and after 3 unsuccessful tries of the Pin-number: Boom.

The problem is only. I may blow myself to smithereens, when I forget my own bloody Pin-number
.

Hi,
the question still remains, what will happen to the DA lenses specially made for the APS-c size.
I can see 2 scenarios:

1.) The full frame Pentax has a list of these lenses and only the APC equivalent size of the sensor is addressed, as mentioned by Don. However the advantage of the full frame is lost.

2.)They are used as full frame lenses with maybe a bit less quality on the edges.

It probably would be worth while to test this lenses on a film camera
to see how they perform.
maybe they are good enough for the not over critical photographer like myself, but are not good enough for the professional.

I had a look through the viewfinder of my SFX
with the 18-55mm DA lens attached and could not see any problems. However on the wide-angle setting the original lens hood caused quit a bit of vignetting which it doesn’t on a APC size camera.

When browsing in Ebay through the lens section, quite often the statement : "American Version" appears behind the description. What does this mean?

I was just wondering what will happen to all the DA lenses if Pentax releases a full frame camera one day.

The way I understand it, the DA lenses are only useful for the smaller size sensors.

I am sure one day (soon?) there will be a full frame Pentax.
Cannon and Nikon have one; and if they become less expensive. Pentax will again fall behind and look like a toy camera if it hasn't a full frame model.

I suppose a new series of lenses will be released with a big fanfare.
The F and FA lenses will get more expensive on the second-hand market.
