1/2.3" sensor, no manual (A/S/M) exposure modes.

Nice looker but won't be getting my £££ after all.

Pandora's Box is open and the Internet is here to stay, hence I use it.

But sometimes I do miss the days when I was merely ignorant and contented.

I'm more interested in the sensor size - if the equivalent wide FL is 28mm then the sensor's going to be a 1/2.33" like in the W80. If, however, the equivalent is 24mm (getting more common) then that 5.1mm lens means there's a 1/1.63" sensor sat behind it like the one on the Panasonic LX3. Now *that* would be a big step in the right direction!

Oooooohhhhhhhhh! That I-10 looks interesting!

Look forward to reading the spec sheet if it's for real...

Who said anything about conspiracy?

It is a reality that the Pentax/Samsung dslr strategic partnership has broken down.

It is also a reality that in an informal partnership (ie not a joint venture et al) each of the parties owns and controls various component technologies.

That is all.
The "conspiracy" (reading back over the last few pages) appears to be that the K7 has a potentially faster AF system than the users are being allowed to experience - for whatever reason.

I'm just saying that in probability it doesn't. I don't dispute Danny's report from the shop that day, I'm simply putting it down to that sample being faulty. Faulty electronic goods (especially pre-production ones) are hardly a new phenomenom.

I don't believe the explanation I put forward is anywhere near as farfetched as you imply, Hefty.

I would point to the episode where the apparently useable movie mode autofocus in pre-production models was subsequently canned. The only explanation proffered from a nameless executive was that the feature wasn't supposed to be available; undoubtedly a strong contender for the lamest corporate excuse of the decade, and in my view a strong indication of strange firmware goings on.
I'm not saying it's impossible or even particularly far-fetched, I just think that the simplest explanation often turns out to be the right one.

Pentax have a track record of holding back firmware features it's true (wireless flash on the K10D springs to mind) but in this case I'm more inclined to believe in a cock-up than a conspiracy to be honest.

Nope, just a hunch based on the fact these batteries were "new" for the K7 (unlike the K10/20 cells which were tried and tested on Minoltas previously) and if experience of electronics in general has taught me anything then it's that "new" very often equals "unpredictable".

I hate to put a damper on such imaginative rumours but the most likely cause was a faulty battery putting out too many volts - you got faster AF but it would have fried the camera before too long...

I think you'd find opinion is pretty equally divided on this one Stefan - there'll always be supporters and detractors so I don't know where you'd go from here.
