I love the detail in his eye!

I see it was taken with the trusty Tamron, have you had a chance to try out your D-FA100 yet?

Start with the "P" mode - it's mostly automated but you do get a little more control. The wheel on the back (near your right thumb) will control the aperture and the one on the front will control shutter speed - as you adjust one of them then the camera will automatically adjust the other to give you a "correct" exposure. If you get stuck then press the green button next to the shutter and the camera will select both for you (just like in green mode). P mode will also let you select your own ISO values (reached by pressing the Fn button).

Take the same photo over and over and change the aperture values so you can see the effect it's having. Now do it again and this time change the ISO settings between shots and see the difference this makes. Get comfortable with using different apertures and ISO's first - it'll be a good start.

Yes, the manual's good for telling you how to do things but generally makes no attempt to explain why you'd want to do them.

I can't speak for the K20D but on the K10D you effectively have the choice of 2 multi exposure modes:

By having the "Auto EV Adjust" switched off (box unchecked) it does behave pretty much like layering photos in Photoshop. I've yet to really find a use for this one to be honest.

By having it switched on (box checked) it becomes quite useful as it makes a single picture by averageing out the recorded information into one properly exposed shot. Uses for this include the elimination of ND filters for all those flowing water shots, great street scenes populated by ghosts, virtual elimination of noise at *any* ISO, greater dynamic range (although you need to bracket manually as you can't have multi-exposure and bracketing switched on at the same time for some reason) - and probably lots of others that I've not discovered yet.

Of course, you need a tripod for all these to make sure the pics line up but I find it a great creative tool.

I can see all numbers (black and white) on my Philips 190CW LCD. I have to let my eyes adjust a bit though to get the 1's on each side.

Those are both very nice captures and I like the HDR effect - really gives some atmosphere.

Excellent judging Mike (yes, the pole in my shot really does lean that alarmingly in real life!) and congratulations to spirit_of_will - a well deserved winner.

I'd appreciate it if others could try the TAv, Av, and M modes on camera to see if they experience the same results above.
Yep, I can confirm that the (my) K10D/AF360 combo returns results just as you describe them here - I also started following your original tests on the previous page but it was obvious after the first dozen or so that my results were again mirroring yours.

P-TTL in consistency shocker!

Yes, I think inconsistent was probably a poor choice of words as they are quite consistent in being rubbish exposures!

Perhaps it's because I can't recall taking many (any?) pics with a reflective surface in them that I haven't noticed this sort of behaviour from my setup. I will certainly be repeating your exercise though in the next few days and I'll let you (and everyone else) know what happens.

Unfortunately, I don't own a flash meter either so I'll just have to trust in histograms after the event too.
