I've replaced several scratched filters through being in contact with other stuff in a gadget bag etc, I'm glad it wasn't the front element of the lens.
As for cleaning, I never touch the glass on my lenses unless cleaning off marks left by liquids (and then only lightly with a microfibre cloth) - dust etc is best dealt with using a blower.
I give both camera and lenses a good blow over at the end of every day, always use a hood when the lens is on the camera and always put the caps on before returning the lens to the bag. So far I've never damaged any glass and I've not had to resort to using filters.
Some find using a UV filter as protection gives them extra peace of mind and that's fair enough, but if you're careful with your kit then I really don't think they're neccessary. Just my $0.02.

Does anybody have a film recommendaton for twighlight city street shooting or bright english winter's day (colour and B&W)?
Can anybody recommend a good place (mail order or North West England) to buy and process film?
Black and white work isn't really my forte either, but from past experience I always found Ilford Delta to work to my liking.
I get all my processing done at Snappy Snaps who have branches in Chester and Stockport. The one in Aylesbury (that I use) does a fantastic job - much better than many mail order "specialists" who have charged me considerably more money in the past!
My only (minor) quibble with Snappy Snaps is that they only sell Kodak film which I'm not really keen on; as smc says above there are good deals on eBay or even places like 7dayshop.com if you hunt around.
Good luck with the ME Super.

It came with a 210mm lens (equivalent of a c. 90mm on 35mm) which is not really what I need. I am now looking for something in the c. 90mm range and may well sell the 210mm to pay for it. Although as you know, selling lenses is easier to say than to do...
I'd love a 200mm lens that goes to 1:1 but at those prices it's unlikely I'll ever get the chance...

Just navigate to Image Data -> Lens and choose from the drop-down menu.
The full list (at the moment) is:
FA 31 / 1.8
FA 43 / 1.9
FA 77 / 1.8
DA 21 / 3.2
DA 35 / 2.8 Macro
DA 40 / 2.8
DA 70 / 2.4
As mentioned above, there's also a DA 15 on the horizon but we don't know yet how fast that will be (although I'd bet on somewhere around f4).
The pros of the FA Limiteds include full-frame coverage (useful for film!), speed and aperture rings. The pros of the DA Limiteds are physical size (or lack of it!) and quick-shift focussing which I also love.
All of them seem capable of extremely high IQ but I think the DA 21 is the one that excites me the least - you might see it differently though...

Now I know the Nikon iTTL is superior to the Pentax P-TTL system, but what I think Mannesty meant was that under the conditions these were taken surely everything was set manually using studio equipment? If that's the case then you're just swapping a mediocre protocol that you don't use for a better one that you still don't use? Either way the end result is identical - or am I missing something?
Glad you have no regrets though - as long as you're happy then that's the main thing.
