For example the DA 55-300 has SP coating; if I understand well it protects its front lens against dirt and contamination but does it mean it is actually fully weather sealed? Apparently not but I just want to be certain. I suppose the fully weather sealed lenses are the Star DA lenses. Am I right?
You are right - the only fully weathersealed lenses are the DA* ones. The SP coating is similar to the anti-smear coatings that are often applied to glasses (spectacles) but do not offer sealing against the elements.

I was in Harrods just after New Year (don't ask!) and actually got to see this "in the flesh". It looks a lot better in real life than in the pictures if I'm honest, still wouldn't buy one but Mrs hefty1 was intrigued...

I have to say kudos to Harrods - there was a large Pentax display with examples of all the current lenses (including all the DA*'s, FA Ltds and DA Ltds) available to play with. In fact, Pentax had the largest (and most prominent) display of all the camera manufacturers with this jewelled K-m being right in the middle.

It's just a shame that the prices were all so high compared to other retailers...

Hi Steve and welcome to the forum. I don't have either lens but if it were my money I'd go for the DA*300 every time.

Hello Andrew and welcome to the forum.

Zoom lens technology has come on in leaps and bounds over the years so I'd expect the DA18-55 to be more than a match for any of your older zooms, however, there's no reason why your 28, 50 and 135 lenses couldn't still churn out excellent results.

The 50mm will now be a fast portrait-length lens and if you want to try your hand at macro on the cheap then try reversing your 28mm onto your 135mm for some results that I think you'll find suprisingly good!

Show us some results once you've given it a try

Hello Annette and welcome to the forum

If you post your question regarding 70-200 lenses in the "Pentax Lenses" sub-forum you're much more likely to get a range of answers than you are in this part. I don't own a 70-200 but I happen to know both Sigma and Tamron make lenses of that focal length (in Pentax mount) and there will no doubt be followers of both brands eager to tell you which one is the best. Good luck!

Probably not - but then think how smug we'd have been if 360's really had arrived in our letter boxes!

I don't tend to carry both, either an SLR or a compact for me depending on the situation.

George's idea sounds like a better use of pocket space

Hefty and Womble, you DO mean a real Pentax flash unit don't you?

Not those bargain ones you got from ebay at Xmas?
Do I put the batteries underneath the red labels or just slot them into the box?
