My tatty and dog-eared copy of The Photographer's Handbook by John Hedgecoe has been with me since I was a kid and I still refer to it from time-to-time. Although written in a pre-digital age the basics haven't changed and it makes a great reference and source of ideas - a real treasure trove of photo techniques.

I had that one too - a buyer in Belgium bought an item from me, I sent it and 4 days later he left positive feedback. Four WEEKS later he opened a dispute (saying item not received) which left me with a negative balance and unable to use my PP account. I challenged his version of events, he didn't reply and I had to wait 14 days for the dispute to peter out. Right pain in the arse tbh...

Yes, I just watched the weather forecast and thought the same thing...

I had (what seemed like) a great idea for this week's comp; spent two hours setting the camera and the backdrop up, got my "subjects" from the freezer and by the time I'd placed them all where I wanted they'd started melting and sliding all over the place. The end result looks nothing like I'd imagined so it's back to the drawing board with only three days to go...

I think your hex has worked!

Like Offertonhatter I bought a Hahnel one for around £20. I've noticed no difference in performance between this and the genuine Pentax but I quite liked the reassurance of having "branded" battery (even if the brand isn't Pentax). I'd used Hahnel products for years and always found them to be of the highest quality.

A lot of people access the site from work so won't see this thread until Monday - I'm sure you'll get more replies during the week.

I don't know - you'd probably just about get a well used Samsung GX1L, GX1S, Pentax *istDL, *istDS, K110D or K100D (non-Super) for that sort of money. With lens may be pushing it but if you don't ask you'll never find out!

True enough, and I don't do enough long tele work to justify forking out on anything more expensive myself either. I must admit I'm rarely disappointed with the Tamron's results - not for the money anyway and I paid an astronomical 90 quid for mine!

Ffordes have had one for sale for ages asking £99 for it - they do have a reputation for high prices so perhaps somewhere in the region of £75-80 isn't too far wide of the mark?

I don't think sharpness is the problem (it's not on mine) and even the CA is bearable to my eyes; I just find it too fussy and I like to actually enjoy using my equipment - the Tamron just has a tendancy to make me swear. A lot.
