I concur with John. If I like the photos a lens produces then that's good enough for me - I only resort to any form of testing if there's an obvious problem.

If you want to stick to M-series lenses and you're on a budget then the M 135/3.5 is an excellent performer. That would give you a fairly typical 35/50/135 three lens kit that most SLR users had in the days before zooms took over. Works quite well on digital too as the 35 now serves as a "normal", the 50 as a fast portrait length and the 135 a good telephoto length.

Lenses wider than the various 28mm's are around but tend to attract a bit of a premium unfortunately.

The M 200/4 isn't bad if you get a good example, but they tend to fetch higher prices (still under £100 but not as cheap as the 135's).

All of which are low prices - and they do seem to be in the UK and include VAT. How can they keep the prices so low?
They probably had/have a lot of stock bought in under the old pricing structure.

The Leica looks a bit special!

I'm guessing that's R-mount? I can't imagine macro work with a rangefinder being much fun...

That's true actually, the K10D doesn't give the lens name in the EXIF data for the Samsung-badged version whereas it does for the Pentax.

I can't say that's a huge reason to buy one over the other though...

It's a much better effort than I would have managed, a really nice atmosphere you've set out there.

I like the first one - the light through the window frame is very convincing indeed

I must be a magnet for them then.

But I've only had it with MZ5's - never on one of the other models. There was a poorly thought-out design in there somewhere... Still, at least the rest of the camera isn't effected so you can always just use an external flash gun.

The MZ-5 is a nice camera, but don't they have an inherent fault that limits their lifespan?? something to do with the mirror box?
I've had a few pass through my hands and the common fault is that all bar one of them had a broken pop-up flash. The inner spring breaks (or becomes unhooked) and the popping stops...
