I have recently purchased a 35 mm 2.8 mf old lens from a local dealer I have also a 50 mm 1.7 mf both these lenses give great results with a little care and attention to detail. I wonderd if any one else used the old lenses and could recomend any to watch out for.

I use the SMC K 1.8/55 a lot. And have the Vivitar (made by Komine) 2.8/28 close-focus K-mount coming to me in a few days, I hope.
The latter being arguably one of the best 28 primes, ever made.

I love those old lenses. And will use them as much as possible.
They produce a certain 3-D look on your pictures, I really like.
But....as more and more people know about these little gems, the prices go up and up.
It's getting more and more difficult to snatch a bargain.

Martin.
Best regards,

Martin.

If you want to stick to M-series lenses and you're on a budget then the M 135/3.5 is an excellent performer. That would give you a fairly typical 35/50/135 three lens kit that most SLR users had in the days before zooms took over. Works quite well on digital too as the 35 now serves as a "normal", the 50 as a fast portrait length and the 135 a good telephoto length.

Lenses wider than the various 28mm's are around but tend to attract a bit of a premium unfortunately.

The M 200/4 isn't bad if you get a good example, but they tend to fetch higher prices (still under £100 but not as cheap as the 135's).

My favourites were the SMC Pentax-M 20mm f4, SMC Pentax 24mm f2.8 and SMC Pentax-M 100mm f2.8, all of which are fantastic lenses.

Unfortunately the rest of the world knows this as well and second hand prices are quite high.
Best regards, John

Just a little off topic But I have an A version of the 200mm f4 in mint condition, What do you reckon its worth,: I have never seen another to compare it with.

I also have an A version of the 100mm f2.8 Just curious

Worth?

Lots!!!

Back to the OP, don't be conned by the 'rare' 40mm. They're not, just over priced because they're slim.

I had one and got rid, preferring my 50mmf1.7 which was sharper and easier to focus (bigger focus ring)

Alternatives to what you have could be the 'A' lenses, but only to set aperture from the body. Image results are the same.
Cheers, HG

K110+DA40, K200+DA35, K3 and a bag of lenses, bodies and other bits.

Mustn't forget the Zenits, or folders, or...

PPG entries.

I really love the Tamron Adaptall 2 lenses (SP series).
I have about 7 now and they really are excellent (and reasonably priced as well).

I really didn't have a clue what my A 200mm f4 was worth. I was recently offered 60quid for it, but declined, I was pretty sure its worth more than that, but not sure its worth 400quid

Heres a Pentax K 200mm f2.5 for 350quid
