Actually I could live with a fixed lens to be honest, I just want something that slips in the pocket but has a larger (FourThirds/Foveon/APS-C) sensor. The Sigmas look good on paper but are slow and cumbersome in operation, and the Leica X1 is far too expensive for what it is (the cost of red dots is astronomical I hear).

But now the technology is in place I'm just hoping the next year will see a slew of high-quality compact cameras from Pentax / Nikon / Canon / Sony etc. My wallet's probably going to stay put for the time being...

It would be interesting to know if Sony have re-designed the Minolta glass to benefit digital?
Sony make a lot of money selling Carl Zeiss branded full frame lenses in the M mount, and I'm sure a lot of these owe their heritage to Minolta's old "G" line of optics (which were their equivalents of Canon's "L" line).

Well that doesn't help my "Which shall I buy - Oly EP1 or Panny GF1?" dilemma...

I quite like my Ricoh GR-D and something along the same lines but with a larger sensor and interchangeable lenses would suit me nicely.

The K7 does use dark frame subtraction for long exposure NR and, just like the K20D, it can't be switched off I'm afraid.

The last DSLR Pentax made with the ability to switch the feature off was the K10D - so if it's really bugging you you'll have to go back a generation I'm afraid. Not that's there's anything wrong with the K10D - still love mine

As promised, a few from the Flek - all taken with the K10D:

One of the nice features about the Flektogon is that it will do a 1:2 reproduction ratio without the need for tubes or other accessories. It's also nicely sharp from wide open and has quite a pleasant bokeh for a "wide" lens.

Interesting comments, so I'll take the advice and take some shots with the 35mm Pentax / Tokina combination. I am interested to see the Zeiss Flektogon 35mm lens in the manual kit bag. Do you have any example of work with this lens? Mike
Plenty - but all on digital rather than film. A very nice lens if you can get hold of one for a reasonable price - they've gone a bit mad over on eBay the last couple of years (which to be fair has suited me as I've had a few duplicate ones to sell). I'll dig out some samples when I get home.

Just out of interest, I went searching for my first post, sometimes I am just so bored, and discovered it, too, had been posted by anonymous.
So he joined the site 20 years before the web was born and he steals other peoples' identities too? I'm sure there's some sort of sci-fi movie in there somewhere...

It actually looks quite a useful piece of kit so perhaps £25 isn't far off the mark this time either. Good luck bidding

I think i'm beginning to understand. So I would guess it's not a bit cancellation thing but more of a kind of AI algorithm that looks at the 'dark frame' and uses that as a basis to choose what to remove from the original frame. It obviously works and that's cool.
Pretty much. The camera simply inverts the dark frame and sandwiches it on top of the first frame - the noise produced on each one then cancels itself out. I've done a few long exposures with the dark frame turned off (did I mention I'm a smug K10D owner..? ) and the results aren't exactly pretty! I always leave it switched on now that I've seen what the other option looks like.

But it sure is a PITA having to wait for the length of an exposure.
You'll get used to it.
