The only digital camera I have killed wasn't a Pentax and was because it got left in direct sunlight when the ambient temperature was 43 degrees (not by me I hasten to add). My K10D has had a few bumps and bounces and has been fine.

This may be tempting fate - but both my DSLRs K20d and GX1S and variety of lenses seem fairly robust.
I did however drop a Carl Zeiss Zuiko 50 mm lens onto a tiled floor last week and bugger the focusing.

Had my K10D with DA*50-135 on the tripod (about a meter high or so). It was at a client's home photographing paintings.
I tipped the head into portrait mode and realized too late that I did not tighten the thumb screw enough that holds the plate in place. The camera with lens (not a light chunk of metal and glass) went crashing to the floor.
I was sure the day was a wash, but both camera and lens are still working perfectly two years later!
I have since bought a new tripod head that is less prone to loosening or forgetfulness.

I have dropped my K10D with battery pack and DA*50-135 from about a metre high twice when picking up my Kata backpack No damage at all to lens or camera . This came about because I used to store my backpack complete camera and lenses in a cupboard. The backpack was laid flat with the zip open to air out. Needless to say I now keep the camera and lenses separate and only put them into the backpack as needed.
The older I get the faster I was.

I picked up my camera bag the other day and my Sigma 10-20 came flying out! (Stupid Slingshot side pocket) Fell about a meter onto carpet, luckily it seems to be okay

My K10D and istD along with a few Pentax lenses (and my Tamron Macro) were catapulted out of a "shopping basket" on the back of a bicycle which I was riding, I went over the handlebars (DONT LAUGH!) and the rear end of the bike soared into the air, followed by my Tamrac camera bag, it must have easily gone up six or seven feet and come back down onto a tarmac road, fortunately this was in Kos during summer so the tarmac was hot and rather soft.
I suffered more damage than my kit which apart from a dusty camera bag was unharmed.

My digital SLRs haven't suffered any knocks, yet. But years ago I dropped a brief case down a full flight of uncarpeted stairs at work. It bounced off every step on the way down and landed on a tiled floor at the bottom. Inside the case was an ME Super and standard lens, 50mm 1.7. They weren't wrapped in anything protective and with only my sandwiches to soften the blow. Neither suffered any damage and went on working for years.

What I mean is, I had my Pentax K-m in a camera bag which rolled off the bed onto the carpet.
Again the camera was in the bag and dropped onto my foot then on the ground, it still works and seems that it can take a knock for two.
I do understand that if it wasn't in the camera bag it wouuld have got dented, damaged etc but it is still nice to know that build quality is very good.
Also has anyone had their DLSR serviced?
