Hello tomkeet,

thanks for your first impressions.

if you compare them with your FA 600mm taken pics
I am also very much interested in a comparison of shots taken with the Pentax 560/5.6 and the FA* 600/4.

Please contact me, if you finally want to sell your FA* 600.

Regarding the cropped hut from the last shot: Is this visible purple fringing (@5.6)?

Regards,
froeschle

Nonsense?

Q&A with Pentax’s John Carlson: A deeper look inside the new MX-1, Pentax’s ILCs and lenses
Quote:
DE: I know we've asked this before, but the question keeps coming from readers so I'll ask it again: full frame. Back in October, Japan's Impress DC Watch blog published an interview with Pentax Japan's development chief, Toshiyuki Kitazawa. He was quoted as saying that Pentax was working on a full-frame camera, and had definite plans for a product launch in 2013 or later. Given Kitazawa-san's statement, can you make any comments about Pentax's full-frame future?

JC: Only that Pentax has confirmed that yes, he made that statement, and it's an accurate statement. But as far as timing and specifications, we don't have any information to share at this point. It's an area we continue to study, and to look for a good solution.

There will be a Canon EOS 70D, but the future of semi-pro DSLRs is probably full-frame, says Masaya Maeda, Managing Director and Chief Executive, Image Communication Products Operations at Canon.
[...]
Now that full frame is appearing in cameras the size and price of the 6D, the future of APS-C at the semi-pro level is in doubt, he says: 'That's something we're considering at the moment. From our semi-pro users there's still demand for APS-C but in the future, I think we will see an increase in the number of full-frame models.'

look at the price of the d600 its the same as the K-5 when i bought it.
full frame has filtered down to APC-C prices from 2 yrs ago.
It makes perfect sense that the next flagship from pentax will be full frame.

Makes me wonder if they had a K-5 APS-C successor in the works, then saw these low priced FF announcements and realized a K-5 successor at the D600/6D price point made no sense...

Using the MX name for a compact (1/1.7", 28-112/8.4-11.7 FF equiv.) is a bit odd.

The MX-1 seems to be an Olympus XZ-2 clone with less functionality (no touchscreen, no lensring control dial, no hotshoe and no optional EVF) [*].
Probably, the XZ-2 and the MX-1 can be traced back to the same manufacturer (Sanyo?).
So, Pentax had to spend not so much in R&D.

[*] The XZ-2 furthermore offers wireless flash control (via internal flash) with the external units FL-36R, FL-50R, FL-300R and FL-600R.
One could test whether these Olympus flashes also work with the MX-1.

This is not quite true. Soligor sold a 500-800/8-12: http://plaza.rakuten.co.jp/gratt/diary/200605280000/

This is a serious offer! Please contact me, if interested. Is gumtree.com really reliable?

I would gladly take a 645D for £1900 (about 2350€) in mint condition. So, any reliable member here, who will check the camera and forward it to me will be recompensed for it. What about 2500€ (2350€ + 150€ for postage and reward)?

FA (and D-FA) lenses are full frame. DA lenses are intended for APS-C.
Which is only part of the story: http://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/pentax-slr-lens-discussion/31629-da-lens-full...

Copy from 6/2012 ( http://forum.digitalfotonetz.de/viewtopic.php?p=1196894#1196894 ):

In the then actual Japanese catalogue ( http://www.pentax.jp/japan/products/catalog/pdf/lenses_accessories.pdf ) 13 lenses were FF capable, 2 additional ones were likely to be FF capable (50/1.8 + 560/5.6) and 4 others were in a limited focal range or stopped down usable on FF. Most (if not all) DA lenses would be usable on APS-H (wihout SR). If this lens selection would not be sufficient, how could Q, Nikon 1, m43, NEX, NX, and X ever succeed?

In comparison:
-> Low contrast at open aperture, behaviour indicates strong in-camera corrections. Useable for general photography, when stopped down.
[...] it's an inexpensive lens that fills a gap in Pentax's lineup. Stopped down, it provides excellent results for sharpness, but many people will be buying it for its ability to shoot at ƒ/1.8, where it offers only mediocre performance. If you need to shoot at wide apertures, you are better served with Pentax's more expensive options; if you are looking for a portrait lens that you'll stop down to at least ƒ/2.8, then this could be a good alternative for you.
