Interesting. What is it built around? K-01? Q?

It's got a 1/1.7inch backlit CMOS sensor, so it's not built around the K-01 or Q but completely new.

Hardly a serious compact with no hot shoe.

Pentax want to try announcing a better DSLR with fast AF and some better zoom lenses. This is not what I have been waiting for tbh.

Pre-production according to sister site Ephotozine. Looks like the hot shoe fell off. link

Personally I think it ugly 70's style but that perhaps is the fashion.

That would be the K5ii, K5iis
K5iis and a couple of lenses.

I suspect some co-operation with Olympus... The Olympus XZ2 has identical specs for both sensor and lens, but has a hotshoe and a control ring around the lens.

However the lens/sensor combination gets well reviewed in the Olympus, so at least it is likely to be a competent performer!

Omfg. Just a shame there's no external flash sync

EDIT: Sample photo, probably at f1.8.

Looks quite promising. Like the EV comp dial, within range of the thumb. That's a control I use often on a compact camera. No flash though? Well I suppose it wouldn't be a Pentax if there wasn't a fly in the ointment!

Love that all black version. It does look as though there's intended to be a hotshoe on top, but maybe not and I guess we'll have to wait and see.

Nice preview.
Best regards, John

The all black shot came from Pentax's official press release, and there's shots of it ALL over their site now, all sans-hotshoe unfortunately

I daresay some genius will find a way of opening it up and adding one eventually

Saw the thread title, and thought we were getting a fully functional robust and reliable DSLR without all the bells and whistle that would be sold at a price to reflect that.

Shame on them for using the name "MX" on this compact.

Oh well. I'll move along

Yes it would have been nicer to keep the MX name for something a bit more special! Perhaps they'll use LX for the upcoming FF...

Not the first time they've abused the 'MX' name though.
