[...] However, SLR [...] users have been seeking for better IQ even if only slightly. For this reason they would like to move forward to the largest sensor size which their lens-mount system accepts. [...] Our long term strategy is towards FF while short term strategy is increasing line-up in APS-C segment. You can expect that. [...]
-> Pentax just has officially announced that a PKAF-FF-DSLR is in the works and will be brought to series-production readiness.

[...] Pentax Japan development unification section chief, Toshiyuki Kitazawa, said, “We are working on it [the FF camera] as a product proposal, so it will, without doubt, be released”.

However, he said, “we are developing with an eye to a 2013-or-later release”, so even though he also said Pentax was already in contact with sensor manufacturers, don’t get your hopes up just yet. [...]

My Horusbennu half case:
Comment Image

It is cream-coloured (not really white). The biggest problem with nearly all (half) cases is that you have to remove them to change the battery and/or the SD card.

Test procedure: An image of a white area was taken with an A-lens and a K-5 at several f-stops (x-axis), the grey scale value of the image then was determined with Photoshop (y-axis).
Blue curve: Lens set to A, aperture value set in camera (which would be similar to the usage of an uncrippled mount).
Red curve: Aperture value set at lens, usage of green button (note the deviation from the blue curve and/or a constant value: the fluctuations correspond to about two f-stops -> predictiveness?)

-> Metering at open aperture plus an additional correction corresponding to the real f-stop (i.e. what an aperture coupler would automatically do) is more accurate than using the green button.

However, seeing lenses from A series onwards can be quite happily used with no problem, and that stretches back some 40+ years, is it so unreasonable?
You could use the aperture ring with all M/K/A/F/(D)FA lenses again without issues. So, there would be advantages even for newer lenses. One could e.g. choose aperture at the lens and use the two wheels of the body to set e.g. time and ISO. Flash and metering problems of K/M lenses would be cured - more or less effectively making them A lenses. Nikon supports such a feature already in the D7000. Even Canon has just reintroduced aperture rings for HDSLR video.

why let it be dropped in the first place?

The only reason for the existence of this mount variation is cost cutting. This was achieved by leaving out the stop-down coupler of the body mount and the aperture ring of the lens mount. With this move Pentax sacrificed one of its strongest advantages, the unrivaled K-mount compatibility.

PF: Pentax K-5 II vs. K-5 IIs
http://www.pentaxforums.com/news/pentax-k-5-iis-report-photokina.html

What convinced us that the removal of the AA filter wasn't a mere gimmick, however, was an internal study that Pentax conducted with the camera- it surprised even their own engineers, who jokingly said that K-5 IIs has the ability to reveal facial features that you never thought were there! We saw a side-by-side comparison of a photo from the K-5 II and the same photo from the K-5 IIs and were (almost) instantly sold. The K-5 IIs appeared to have a very clear increase in resolution (but of course you do have to factor in the risk of seeing moire patterns in your images)! Pentax claimed that this sort of resultion was "unprecendented" in its class. Pentax also promised to send us these sample photos, and we will post them as soon as they do.
