Hearsay and speculation.
It's interesting that terms like 'full-frame' and 'APS-C' are ingrained in usage when the 'frame' of a digital camera is whatever size the sensor happens to be... (and I did grow up with 35mm)

Why the need for a full frame?
The K-5 with an aps-c sensor gives excellent results that can crop down and still be printable at larger sizes.
As for the need for Tokina to make 'FF' lenses, look in your camera bag and see what you all ready own.

We as Pentax users will always question the need for that which Pentax don't make but others do.Why the need for a full frame?

Not sure that anyone really needs a camera at all, full frame or otherwise. But presuming one does what type one wants is a personal decision. Why the need for a full frame?
Back in the film days, should you be tasked with preparing a slide show, would you want normal 35mm transparencies or half frame (=APS-C more or less)?
With everything else being equal, the 'full frame' 35mm ones would have more definition, less grain, look sharper, less prone to dust. Doesn't that apply to digital as well?

I really find this a puzzle. If everything else is equal apart from the sensor size, eg a full frame camera that shares the body of the K-5 or its successor and even manages to be at the same price point (given probably not at first) would we still be asking why we need it?
I appreciate we aren't there yet but in case someone thinks that cannot happen the MX and ME were smaller than a K-5 and sensor prices are dropping so why not? If any camera manufacturer can do it it would surely most likely be Pentax.

There have been so many improvements that the case for FF diminishes with time.
At one time Half Plate might have been considered the preference of serious amatuerus, by the end of the film era medium format was as good as most of us aspired to, and 35mm film was actually better for many applications.
I find APS-C a convenient format and although I'm happy to take on board every improvement, I don't really want the extra bulk and cost of 24x36mm format.
Some will, in which case there will be something on the market for them.

Quite so John, no doubt the press 'togs will leave Canon and Nikon in their droves to buy a Pentax FF body. Some will, in which case there will be something on the market for them.
Or maybe not.
At least the 'bigger is better' crew will have something to play with, not me though.
If I want FF I'll drag out one of the film bodies, either 35mm or 120 format...
