I lived and worked in Edinburgh for a while. It's a very cosmopolitan city. The Grassmarket area at the back of the castle was an interesting if not somewhat earthy place. I recall something like 12 or 14 pubs in the square if you fancied a pub crawl. But alas that was thirty sigh years or so ago so things might have changed a bit now. However, you can always have a look at Google street view to check some areas out for targets of interest and make a hit list before you travel.
It's a great place to visit but a short visit isn't time enough to explore everywhere.

Have fun

Love trees. 2, 3 & 7 are my picks. Thanks for sharing.

For someone just starting out with a dslr, I think the CCD sensor in the K10d makes for a more attractive proposition. I was always regretted selling my GX10, the K10d equivalent.

I think the OP might be back from the country trip by now but I'll second the use if the Sigma 8-16, it is a stunning piece of equipment

I have one these albeit without the adapter and I agree it is indeed a great performer. A particularly big attraction to this lens is the fact that it is so very light and therefore a great travel companion.

The Sigma 100-300mm f4 if you can snag one is also a good option with the K3. I found the K5 very frustrating due to focus hunting but no such problems with the K3.

In the absence of anything else though, the Pentax 55-300 is very competent for a first foray into aviation photography. You may invest heavily in a big fast lens, only to find aviation photography isn't your cup of tea. So I'd suggest have a go with what you have and take it from there.

Good luck.

Exquisite photo's if I may say so.

They most certainly illustrate the power and quality of the beast.

Good luck with the sale.

For anyone who might be interested and lives in or around Oxfordshire, there is an ad on Gumtree for a Pentax FA 24-90mm lens all boxed with hood and claimed to be in excellent condition. It's not cheap at an asking price of £199.00 but certainly cheaper than the current crop for sale on ebay.
