FS: Pentax FA* 250-600mm f5.6

Selling my FA* 250-600mm f5.6. Comes with the metal case, lens hood cover and wallet full of filters. The lens is in excellent condition, has very few marks on it (which is unusual for the silver paint finish) and has hardly been used since I aquired it a few years ago.

Reason for selling is that tbh is that a, I really don't get the opportunity to take it out and b, when I can I really can't be bothered to hump it around.

Price: Looking for around 5k with a meet up for the buyer to check over the lens or pick up and delivery at the buyers own arrangement and expense

Apart from this quick test I never used it with the DA 1.4x teleconverter but it would seem a pretty good match. 840mm

Exquisite photo's if I may say so.

They most certainly illustrate the power and quality of the beast.

Good luck with the sale.

Fabulous photos BTW. It is an awesome lens - makes my new 150-450mm seem puny.
What year would this have been made?

150-450mm = 2325g with tripod foot and hood
250-600mm = 5800g with tripod foot and (built in) hood.

Now you can see why I hate carrying it around

Seems like you can carry the lens, or the camera body - but not both
Seriously, I hope someone needs and wants it (BTW, might be worth advertising on the US forum as well).

How does this lens compare to the 150-450 with the DA 1.4x? Purely on a crop body of course.
All the gear with no idea

The 450 with tele gives you 630mm ish..., but in no way will it match the IQ of this. This is the ultimate Wildlife zoom for Pentax users. I wish I could justify the price tag at the moment.

Far better at 600mm f5.6 than the 150-450mm and converter at f8. Of course you then still have the option of adding a converter to the 250-600mm. Bokeh is much creamier as well.

This lens is so desirable and so unique, and so out of my price bracket, and I hope you don't regret selling it Mike.

Why not get out there with it and reap the rewards of owning it?
Best regards, John

With my son as he is these days John I get less and less time to myself. Also, the airplane incident a couple of months ago means it's very unlikely we will manage to get him to fly again so the only realistic way I can see of getting to Spain now is a campervan and they aren't cheap so I am going to have to sell some of the more unnecessary items.

If I had £5000 lying around for something I'd used very, very sparingly I'd be down to Hampshire like a shot. Reality is, it would be used 2-3 times a year maximum. It would be a great buy for someone who would use it regularly.

Sorry to hear about the situation with your son Mike.

I remember you buying this Mike. Always hurts to sell rare long glass. I regretted selling my 400mm f4 and nearly bought it back again when it recently went for sale.

Good luck with the sale and all the best for your son.

Bump to keep the thread alive

Out of interest I always used that street light as a lens test, the idea being that it was a fair distance away so if I could see the ridges on the plastic round the bulb then the lens was just about dialled in correctly.

About 12 months ago the council changed all our lights to those horrible low energy things with covered elements that point directly downwards. Totally useless for me now

Yes! I was given some money Mr P. But would you be willing say, to sell the front lens cap separately? lol...
