The only converter I have been happy with is the Pentax HD AW 1.4TC, i.e. the latest one. It is superb. I have tried various others, none came close.

Both the K-3 and the K-5iis are very good in low light. The original K-5 is not so good, but this is nothing to do with the sensor. The AF on the original K-5 cannot cope in low light, so if you are considering a K-5, make sure it's a K-5ii or a K-5iis.

K-3's are great value at the moment, I would highly recommend. I haven't used a K-3ii but it will also be superb, if just a little more expensive. I think the K-3 route would be the way to go if you are limited on funds, then as Andrew suggests you could upgrade later to a K-1 once prices have dropped.

The dog image is lovely Dave, we have a Tibetan Terrier too, although ours isn't as hairy as that one at present!

I like the faces shot too, it works better straight on than mine did at an angle.

Such a beautiful set of images, it is so hard for me to pick a favourite, so I'm not going to try. However, I think it's worth noting what makes the seascapes in these so good for me and that is the way Bill has used the patterns in the water to aid composition. To make this work, the shutter speed has to be judged spot-on to retain the right amount of detail in the water, but with just enough blurring to form patterns. You've nailed it Bill.

Very nice set Neil, you spotted some things that I certainly didn't see. I also like number 4 the best, it's a really gritty and contrasty take which suits the scene perfectly.

Very imaginative take on the 'Gentlemen' image, I certainly wouldn't have thought of framing it like that but it works really well. I also really like your 'will you marry me' image which isn't shown in this set!

Excellent set George, my favourite by a mile is 'Reservoir Togs', but they are all very good. I might have been tempted to cut the some of the bottom off Reservoir Togs and also the Canal Basin shot, but in general this is a very strong set of images and represents the day we had brilliantly.

Very strong set Drew, I particularly like the contrasty black and white images.

Great stuff from all I think and a very worthwhile exercise, both the day out and the subsequent competition. Congratulations to AndrewA for winning the Pentax K-55 F1.8 lens and many thanks to John Riley for excellent judging and comments. You've saved me some postage on the lens John as I can give it to Andrew in person!

Cheers
David

PS: If you haven't seen George Carman's group shot on the Gallery titled 'Reservoir Togs' posted on 16th February I would recommend you have a look - it is brilliant, see link:
