Hi all, please forget my previous questions. What I am doing is correct as it works perfectly on my laptop. It must be something on my other PC that is not correct. In PDCU4 you simply carry out your RAW adjustments, then save the image to a jpeg or tiff file.

Given that I have PDCU4, not Silkypix, how do I save to jpeg the adjustments I make to a RAW image?

Hi George, the Pentax bundled software is a version of Silkypix - it is this I am referring to. Hope this helps.

I would think they are excellent, especially the Pentax. Try them out on you DSLR and see what sort of pics you get. Contrast will not be as good as the modern lenses, but this is easily fixed in post processing.

Hi everyone, I just need pointing in the right direction on something regarding the Pentax Digital Camera Utility 4 (Silkypix). I always shoot in RAW (DNG) only and save my pics from Silkypix to a jpeg, using the 'Save As' option. However, I have noticed than when I do this, the saved jpeg is not retaining white balance adjustments that I make in Silkypix, it is reverting back to the white balance as per when the picture was shot with the camera. Does anyone know what I am doing wrong? How do I get the jpeg to store with the desired white balance settings?

David

Eddy, the Samsung lens is identical to the DA L or the DA II in optical terms. The only difference is the colour of the metal strip on the lens and cosmetic branding etc.

Don't pay any attention to the price reduction, these lenses are widely available in Pentax or Samsung form for £40 or less and you can get the WR (weather sealed) version for £60 brand new.

The mark II version is very good optically for a kit lens and I use it extensively for all types of pictures, especially landscapes (have a look at my portfolio or on PPG for examples). However, it is not in the same league as the DA 16-45mm which you can buy new in Samsung guise for £180 from Park Cameras, or you may find some second hand Pentax examples between £140 and £200. Well worth stretching to if you can afford it; you will get better image quality.

Went into Jessops at Meadowhall Sheffield yesterday and asked the young guy behind the counter if they had a K-5 in stock that I could have a look at. He had a quick look on his computer and told me they were out of stock on that model. I then asked if he had a demo K-5 I could look at and he replied 'no, but we do have a K-1 in stock you could have a look at'!!!

I think Jessops arelacking somewhat in the product knowledge department as he was actually referring to a K-r.
I didnt happen to be a young man wearing glasses did it?
No, it was a young fellow without glasses! He may have had some specs but he wasn't wearing them when I spoke to him.
