Very good. There are a couple of highlights in the dark area that look a bit like hot pixels - have you checked your pixel mapping recently?

If you are only seeing video as 'an addition to photography and not the main purpose' I don't think there is any competition. The K-5 would surely be the way to go.

If video is more important then this may change things a little.

Bit soft and lacks in microcontrast, could really benefit from a bit of smart sharpening .
Nice anyway.
Hi Piotro, thanks for your input on this. Please bear in mind that when uploading to the Gallery the pictures are re-sized / compressed and this makes them look softer. On the original it looks a lot sharper.

BTW, your gallery images are pretty sharp so I guess you are using methods referred to above (smart sharpening). Could you please explain what you mean by this (I do not own any commercial image processing software other than Photomatix, so please excuse my ignorance). All of my processing is done in Paint.net.

I don't want to get involved in any controversy, but sometimes given the quality of sensors / cameras a picture needs very little PP. I've put one on the Gallery tonight which has had a slight crop, but apart from that only the very tiniest bit of sharpening. No filters, no levels, no colour, no contrast tweaks etc. The pic is from my K-5; this is not possible with my other cameras (K-x, K-m), see link below.

Is there a download available on the Pentax UK website? There is for most models either current or previous, see link below.

Unless I am missing something, you cannot use an external source for the sound with the K-x. There is no microphone input nor any line in for sound. I think you can only use the mono microphone that is built into the camera.

Just to clarify my previous comment about the Sigma 70-300mm being 'useless' for macro, I was referring to the fact that it cannot perform true macro (e.g. extreme close-ups of insects). It is clearly capable of shots of butterflies and the like, but so are most lenses that don't have any macro designation at all. Maybe the words I used were not the most appropriate, but I think the gist of what I was saying is accurate, i.e. you really need a true macro lens for macro photography, or alternatively you need to be prepared to use a set of tubes on a non macro lens, which isn't really a viable alternative with the Sigma 70-300mm.

These are impressive indeed Mat. I have a copy of the Sigma 70-300 lens and have not found it very impressive, but your shots with it are superb.
