Hi Simon, no difference optically, only cosmetic branding and colours. Also the rubber on the lens focus ring is different but that's about it.

Hi Mike, no I think you have me wrong here.

The reason I posted a comment on this is that there are lots of new or fairly new users who read posts on this forum, particularly just before or after they buy a new camera or lenses. Some of them may take comments like this too literally - I have read several threads over the past year or so where people have unfounded / uniformed paranoia about the DA L lenses and a lot of people think that there are diffrences in the optical quality as well as the mounts / quick shift. Not everyone is a lens expert like you; this is the only reason I made a comment.

I have both DA and DA L lenses; I think both are great and I have no hang-ups about people choosing whichever version suits them best. Both represent serious value for money for the optical quality on offer.

Best wishes
David

Not the cheap DA-L version with no hood, quickshift and plastic mount but the more expensive DA len which has a Pentax hood, quickshift and metal mount (so it won't melt in the sun)
Mike, my DA L 55-300 has never 'melted in the sun'. There's no doubt that the DA version is superior in terms of build / quick-shift and therefore is worth more money. Your comment was probably tongue-in-cheek but you could inadvertently give the impression here that the DA L lenses are rubbish. This is clearly not the case.

Hi Rich, a warm wlecome to the forum and the world of Pentax. As a fellow 'K-5 owner' I can reassure you that it is a fabulous camera and will far exceed what your previous camera was capable of. I'm sure it will be less time than you think before you get used to it and you are able to show us some images.

Hi Charlotte, that was very unlucky timing with your battery, but you still got a great set of pictures here. Better luck next time!

By the way, did you get your K-r sorted out and if so what was the cause of the problem?

I think Smeggy has already answered this one; there isn't any point.

Hi Melih

I have an old Miranda 500CD which works perfectly on my K-x and on my K-5 when set to the 'Pentax' mode (it is multi-dedicated as is the 700CD). However, strangely it will not fire when attached via a hot-shoe cable extension.

I suspect that the Miranda flash units may be a little sensitive to the trigger voltage and possibly yours is more sensitive than some.

I have to do something about this soon, last time I tried the camera refused to lift the mirror because it felt that the battery level was too low, even though they were almost new at the time. I will have a look around for rechargeables I think, having seen the cost of the AC Adapter.
Mike, I would thoroughly recommend you get some Sanyo Eneloop rechargeable batteries. They are brilliant and cheap on Amazon. They work extremely well with the K-x.

They are all beautiful shots Shaun, for me No.3 stands head and shoulders above the rest and is the most likely competition winner. It has everything and as stated above it 'hits you right between the eyes'.
