K7 Image Modes

Am I missing something concerning the image modes, bright natural vibrant etc etc etc. What is the point of them when shooting raw? They only affect the preview image on the camera, which I find odd. I know they alter the jpg. Anyone know why the preview is affected but not the raw file?

I may be wrong but my understabing is that the preview image is an embeded .jpg which presumably is affected by image mode settings.

But if you only shoot in raw, this .jpg preview is only used on the camera, not affecting the raw file.

You can always extract the embedded JPG from the RAW
(And that's where the image mode helps)

On the contrary, it couldn't be easier.

Works in Windows 32bit or 64bit and Mac (and it's free)

If there's a need to use 3rd party software to get at the image mode jpg, then it is, more trouble than its worth!

Image modes work with JPEG (as does white balance, in camera HDR...).
If you only shoot RAW there is little point in them, all they effect is the cameras RAW to JPEG conversion. If you use RAW + JPEG you'll already start getting some use from them (Without 3rd party software).
I find for most shots using RAW is more trouble than it's worth - especially if NOT using 3rd party software.

Wow such hostility from a friendly suggestion.
I personally find this utility exceptional and simplicity itself.
I didn't come here to argue, so I'll move on..

Hostility? I'm glad your happy with the software. The original post was to find out if there was a relevent use for the image modes available when shooting in raw. I didn't wanna learn how to get at the images that image modes produced, if I did I would shoot raw+

I am still wondering what the point of these are. One HAS to be selected and that selection has an effect on the preview we see when we shoot raw. If we have a B+W mode selected that is the preview we will see on screen, but the raw will be in colour!?
I ask again, does anyone know whats the point of them when shooting raw??

I think Smeggy has already answered this one; there isn't any point.

When you turn the camera to green mode all the features that cant be used become greyed out and useless.
So why doesn't this become the case when raw is selected?

I've yet to investigate your link, but it could certainly prove useful on the camera clubs laptop if it works with a wide range of different RAW formats. Thanks for the suggestion.
