I have to say that I like the lighting / colours better in the original poster's shot than the example posted by Nigel above. To me, Nigel's doesn't look natural, whereas the first one does! Just my personal opinion of course, others will differ!

I also quite like the original image. It's not exceptional, but it's not bad either. Regarding the edits, I prefer the approach that Ralph has suggested to the one that Karl has, to me the portrait shot with less of the surrounding distractions is more successful for this particular image as it leads the eye in and through much better.

The second one looks to have a more obvious colour cast to me than the first one does. Look in the bottom right - the tones look all wrong in this part of the image and there is a streak of highlight, it looks as though there was light leakage through the camera viewfinder to me.

Regarding the first one, it looks a bit dark on the monitor I am viewing it on at present (work, not home) and also the tree on the right cuts the edge of the frame. It wouldn't be difficult in photoshop or similar software to bring in a lot more shadow detail in the first image. I can see the magenta also in the sky and I think it is the filter causing this, but as Nigel says it should not be hard to remove if you wanted to do so.

I think it is a very nice image, good balance between the sky and the foreground and some nice starbursts from the setting sun. The ponies most definitely add to the scene.

Excellent Mat, these show off the resolution of the K3 very nicely indeed. It's very difficult to pick a favourite, but 2, 3 and 4 are the best for me. I think 1 needs a bit more detail in the shadows and 6 looks a bit too dark overall.

Thanks for posting these, I do think there is mounting evidence that the K-3 was worth the wait.

It is difficult to critique the IQ when presented with the reduced sizing. However I like the way the colours have come out, they look very natural, and the sharpness looks very good.
Cheers Steve, I was getting a little worried when I noticed you commenting on these as I thought you might say what you said in the earlier post about commenting!

Very well put Steve. I for one am looking forward to receiving some blatantly sh!te comments from you on my images

Personally I am very difficult to please. I am an exceptionally harsh self-critic and welcome the most forthright critique of my own images. I don't need praise, I just need to improve.

There are probably too many that clearly regard their images in high esteem and get a bit huffy when others see things differently. The best approach really is to ask for honest opinion and forthright critique, if that is what you want. Of course it's nice to get wow great stunnings. But it's much more useful to get hints on how to improve.

If you receive few comments then I think it is a fair assumption that the images are either rather too routine or not much good. So silence can speak volumes.
I agree with Dr O's comments above and I'm always very glad when Adrian makes comments on my images because they are invariably well informed, useful and relevant. It is rare that Adrian gives glowing reviews but this is actually the most useful aspect of his critique as you know that the points made are well considered and usually are spot on. The same is true of Alan's (Blythman's) comments, so please keep commenting on my paltry efforts guys!!

A good and varied set Daniel. The last Tiger shot is the stand-out for me, it is very powerful. I also really like the Meerkat one because it is different to the norm and the first Tiger shot is also very strong. The others for me don't have quite have the wow factor, they are sharp and well exposed enough apart from the first one which is a little burned out, but they don't have anything to make them stand out from the crowd.

If you can let me know the time and place for meeting up on the 28th that would be great, I'm not 100% sure I can get away from work on time but I will certainly do my utmost to be there.

Cheers
