How can something so simple be made so complicated? In the context of the K3 and most recent Pentax DSLR's, the answer is:

Full HD (1080P) is 1920 * 1080 pixels, progressive scan
HD (720P) is 1280 * 720 pixels, progressive scan

Best way to see the difference in quality is to take a short video at both settings, preferably of moving subjects, then watch both videos on your (Full HD) telly. Job sorted

Cheers
David

Best wishes Gary, hope the change is right for you, it would be good to hear your comparative views once you've got used to the D600.

Sadly, this is about as bad as it gets. I really tried to post something respectful and also let everyone know the truth as there were assumptions that were being made by people who knew nothing about the truth of what was going on at the time. There were even suggestions in the thread that Richard was in fact a front for another well known Forum member; this was just too ridiculous for words. I thought it important that everyone understood why Richard did what he did and I do not apologise in the slightest for what I wrote because it was from the heart and had no hidden agenda or bad intent. What I wrote was not 'a patronising lecture', it was my honest thoughts that we should respect others and not take at face value what we read when we do not know what is behind it. I do however regret writing it purely because of the single insensitive response.

I feel very sorry that Smeggy has written this, I was upset by Richard's death, I was upset at the time of the thread I referred to because of what people were writing (at the time I could say nothing) and I have been upset by more bad news today about another of our fellow photographers taken ill. I am however grateful for the support of the vast majority of contributors to this thread who have posted sincere and sympathetic messages.

Best regards
David

Most definitely 'Yes', the Pentax-M 50mm F1.4 is a fine lens and is one of my personal favourites. If you have a camera with focus peaking (K-01, K-3 etc.) it really shines. Here's an example of one I shot with this lens, wide open at F1.4, the photo is not the best but it shows what the lens is capable of:

Thanks for posting this Jim, I was about to start a thread myself when I saw this. I do feel that I should set the record straight on one or two things, I feel very strongly about this and although the Forum is not a place to hang out dirty washing, there have been some very unsavoury comments on certain threads and I think this should be a lesson to all of us.

First of all, Richard never posted any images on this website. This may have led some people to think that he had no photographic skill or knowledge, but this cannot be further from the truth. Richard was a highly skilled journalistic photographer, this was his profession, not a hobby. He went on assignments all over the world and won many awards and accolades for his work. However, deep down I think he had a lack of self confidence and maybe this is why he didn't post his images on PU.

Secondly, after returning to the UK following a lengthy assignment in Russia, he learned of some devastating news. I am not going to detail what this was, but suffice to say it destroyed his life. At that time, some of you may remember a thread on here where Richard 'lost it' with various members and posted a number of comments which some found funny. I knew why this was happening but I could not and would not have let on, as you can imagine I did not find it funny, the poor guy was going through a personal breakdown in front of our eyes.

Finally and most importantly is what we should all learn from this. We should never post offensive personal comments about anyone, we should never make assumptions about the meaning of the written word as we do not understand the context of what was behind the writing, we should never make judgements about anyone without knowing all of the facts. Sadly, there are numerous occasions where some members have ignored these principles, but I hope that Richard's sad passing will make us all stop and think.

I would ask you all to please respect what I am posting here by only making appropriate comments on this thread. I pass my sincere condolences to Richard's family and friends.

Regards
David

I agree with the locations suggested, all three will be particularly good if there is any snow on the ground, but that looks unlikely at present! If we are doing Magpie Mine, we need to hit it late afternoon and hope for a sunset!

The K-x has one of the best sensors Pentax have ever put in a camera, albeit 'only' 12mp. If anyone is on a limited budget and wants a DSLR, I would recommend it very highly indeed.

I don't think you will have any particular problems with dust in any of the Pentax lenses, 18-135 included. All lenses will accumulate a small amount of dust over time, but I've never heard of any member on here citing it as a problem with any Pentax lens.

I agree with you Graham, I also have the DA 40mm XS and find it works really well with the K-01. I will be hanging onto my (silver) K-01, giving it a run out whenever I need to do indoor shooting in low light, especially when using MF fast lenses.

No, that can't be right! He is too 'human'!

Just joking of course John, hope it's taken in the spirit intended! You did open yourself up by posting this image!
