There are several photographers on this very forum who, given the opportunity to travel to these locations, could do a much better job. Blythman ( despite his annoying watermarks ) and David Storm ( despite his annoying equipment purchase justifications ) are two notable examples
WOW, is this a back-handed compliment Smeggy? I never thought I would see the day Nevertheless it's gratefully received

Back on topic, I have no particular positive or negative opinion on Trey's images I gerneral, but I have to say that I agree 100% with Smeggy's observations on the Taj Mahal shot. It is definitely not straight - this is an unforgiveable error for a shot of this prestige and also the colours in the sky look frankly ridiculous. He clearly has a lot of talent, but do I like the shots? Not sure.

Hi Jon

I might be your man! I have both cameras and also have a Mk1 K-5 as well. I will be happy to take shots as similar as possible with the K-3 and K-5iis, both in RAW at the settings you have suggested. If you PM me details of how / where to send them I will get the RAW files to you, as long as you promise not to post them on here or post any constructive criticism of the image quality!!!

It will be Saturday most likely before I can do this, very busy at work and on house renovations at present, so please excuse any slight delay.

Best regards
David

Do you mind me asking how much it cost to repair?

I do prefer the one above, it retains more detail in the dark areas, When there are trees without leaves in a scene like this I think it is important that the structure of the trees can clearly be seen, hence my original comment on the dark area.

I used Microsoft ICE, this seems to work very well and it is free

You can see at the top on this unfinished example that it needs cropping a little more, if you use lenses with distortion this requirement will be magnified. The 28 F2.8 should be a decent lens for panos I would think.

I must look at your panos David
I tend not to publish them on here or on other websites Alistair as I think it's very difficult to do them justice on a website, especially on here with the size restrictions. Here is one (not very good and unfinished) example with the M28mm F3.5, this is probably as wide as is practical to display on here. BTW, the F3.5 tends to be much more highly regarded than the F2.8 version, it might be worth you keeping an eye open for one.

I use multi-segment on the K-3 for most situations. As mentioned above it works very well.

I would add to your points above by mentioning that it's always best to use a lens with as little distortion as possible. That's why I tend to use my old M28mm F3.5 as this hardly distorts at all and produces excellent Panorama results.

I definitely have not seen a tendency to blow highlights with my K-3, quite the contrary in fact. The dynamic range is very good indeed, not noticeably different from my K-5's. I find the K-3 meters very accurately, in most situations. It appears to be more reliable on metering than the K-5 variants.

Here's an example of a (processed) K-3 image that had a pretty wide dynamic range:

It had the assistance of a 0.6 ND Grad filter for the sky.
