Might be a good idea to post what is wrong with the camera - does it switch on, is the screen OK etc?

I would guess swapping a screen out would be a pretty risky business.

This is what makes forums, photography (and art in general) so fascinating and interesting!

In this context - (and again, I'm not questioning your choice here specifically, its just an example for the point) then, if the right horizon presents as sloppy editing, is it not better to 'correct' for that and present the photo as 'unrealistic', in the interests of overall asthetic quality and appeal?
The huge divergence in views about what is good, what is bad, what should be done and what should not be done provides endless amusement, discussion, passion and debate.

Davids choice completely. When I first looked at it, I thought there was haloing. I looked more closely, and decided there wasn't.

I think only photographers would notice, and some will look closer than others. That's not David's problem

Thanks Alan, insightful observation as always! The image stays as it is, I will not be editing the horizon on the right as it is already how it is meant to be! I take no offence or negatives from Nigel's comments as it is great to have different points of view as alluded to above.

Thanks to everyone once again.

I have to be honest on this and say that it doesn't look right to me. The composition and panorama look great - no little skill employed here, but the HDR processing does not agree with me.

The problem I have with HDR if not done very carefully is that it tends to lend a surreal and 'plastic' look to images and I think this is what has happened here. I'm sorry if this is harsh, but I always say what I think and this is just my personal view.

I have nothing against HDR and have used it (sparingly) myself, but only to achieve the most realistic result possible. It is more difficult with HDR software to achieve realism than it is to end up with a pastiche, so 'careful' is my approach to this.

Hope this is constructive rather than destructive Alistair, you know I like your work and this is an observation only on the processing technique.

Best wishes
David

Redsnapper again.

I don't believe there is anything of comparable quality available at anything like the price. Mine has had some very hard use over the past couple of years and although it's a bit scratched it still performs as well as it did when I bought it. Everything on them can be tightened with an Allen Key when necessary, it's easy to replace bits if they do require replacement and they provide a very strong and stable platform.

It has never happened to me on any of my Pentax cameras, including one K-3, one K-5iis, two K-5's, four K-x's, two K-01's and one K-m.

I've only recently acquired a grip that is used on my K-5iis, no problems with this camera since then, but have never used a grip on any of the others. Maybe this could be why I haven't had a problem?

Also, all of my cameras have always been kept up to date with the latest firmware.

Thanks again Nigel, I do see what you mean, but as this is how the clouds were at the time I prefer to leave them as is. There was a bright edge at the back of the clouds, just above the right horizon that was not replicated on the left. I don't mind if it looks like poor blending on this occasion! I can say that the image is a touch warmer than it was in real life, I prefer this particular image 'warm' for some reason.

Thanks for the observations everyone, much appreciated as always.

No 1 has great varying light contours across the undulations of the terrain which really makes it. It needs a lower viewpoint I feel, but no doubt there was a good reason for taking from that specific position. The blending into the sky along the right side horizon looks a bit iffy?
I did consider lowering the tripod for this shot and in fact had it on Live View with the tripod right down, but it did not work as there was no view of the distant hills with the tripod down low. Not sure about the comment on the sky? The sky is original, it hasn't been replaced or blended in any way. I suspect Nigel is referring to the light strip just above the horizon, if so this is just the back edge of the dark shower clouds.

I agree with Nigel's sentiments about Neil's (gtis) day, we all go through disappointing shoots but often when we look back at the images later we find that some of them are pretty good!
