Lovely image Derek, in all three incarnations. My preference is for the pure mono, but I wouldn't discard any of them.

What a fascinating set of images! Cannot pick favourites, my eyes just love all of them.

Thanks for posting Bill.

Fabulous set as always, a bit more 'conventional' than your recent posts, but none the less impressive for it. 5, 6 and 7 blow me away, they are fantastic.

This issue is common on the DA 17-70, they have inherent design faults which cause the symptoms you are describing. It's not a question of whether you will have focus issues with this lens, it's a question of when.

The DA 17-70 is a very good lens when working correctly, but it's too prone to fail and I would steer clear of buying another one and would go for a more reliable alternative instead. The Sigma 17-70's are very good, both the current and previous versions. Sorry if this sounds a bit negative towards the Pentax lens, but I'm just giving an opinion based on previous ownership and also from other people I know that have had issues with the DA 17-70.

Thank you everyone for your comments and observations, I must find time to go back to Fountains Abbey on my own, so I have a bit more time to think about what I'm photographing. I do feel these images are a bit 'average', but I find it hard to give a place full concentration when I'm with the other half! It's a remarkable location and made me think that Henry VIII has a lot to answer for given the state of ruin these once magnificent abbeys are now in.

You haven't lost your touch Drew, this is a lovely set. 2, 4 and 7 are all great, but my favourite is number 5 'punting'.

Let me know when you're free so we can arrange a day out, you are right, it's been far too long!

Cheers

Lovely images Mike, camera, lens and camera operator working together in perfect harmony!

Funnily enough, I like the extra two you have posted the best out of the set.

A fantastic place for a day out if you're in or around Ripon, North Yorkshire. Even better if you are a National Trust member as it's expensive to get in if not.

Critique always welcomed, all shots are with the K-3, lenses are a mix of Sigma 17-70 f2.8-4 DC HSM OS and Pentax DA*50-135.

8. An explanation of this one; it's the water wheel at Fountains Abbey Mill, shot at a slow shutter speed to produce this abstract image.

Looks like a great lens Mike, some lovely images taken with it. If I hadn't just had my 17-70 repaired I would have gone for this.

These are great, I like the BW treatments and the stripped-back colour in the first image, which I think is my favourite from the set.
