Regardless of the reasons why it may be the case, it is great to see quality on the Gallery. I was worried over the past few months that this site had lost most of its best photographers, but it now seems that others are 'coming of age' so to speak and the few stalwarts are producing some really good stuff. I'm always amazed at the comments of the good photographers on here (like Alan for example) who admit to not visiting the Gallery very often. Why ever not? It's a photo site and it doesn't take long to scan through the images and show appreciation for those that deserve it.

Long live the Gallery and those who contribute so handsomely to it.

I also take on board Alan's observations about controlling the number of uploads. There's nothing more frustrating than posting an image (generally no more than 1 per day on average from me) and it being swamped by a dozen all in a row from the same person. Posting a series is a great idea, but not all at the same time!

David

Ah yes Alan, that's probably right ... So you mean that its mostly the run of the mill photographers who have moved to posting elsewhere and the better ones who have stayed here?
I didn't say that Nigel
I think it was probably implied though Alan

Hello and welcome, hope you enjoy the Q. People often say that the British like a Q and are good at it.

Thanks Nigel and Defragged!

Nigel, your comments are invariably more interesting than the images and you have done it again here! I think we should start a thread dedicated to your observations!

Cheers
David

Thanks for the additional detail Alan, I value your opinions and just needed a bit more information about what had prompted your thoughts. One of the great things about photography and art in general is that we all have such differing opinions about what works and what doesn't. For what it's worth, I like the stark light and lack of warmth in the first one as I think it suits the stark nature of the chalk building.

Please keep on giving me your honest opinions, I do take them on board and try to learn from them.

David

Hi All

Thank you for the feedback so far on this series of shots. What I find most interesting is the debate about shooting images in the middle of the day. The reality is I was on holiday with my wife and had no time to think about the shots, I had to grab them as and when I could. If I'm on my own (which hopefully I will be in the Lakes this Autumn) I take a more considered approach and try to be in the right place at the right times of the day.

#2 is superb, and I like that David has only partially corrected the verticals
I didn't actually correct them at all Alan as the intention was to use the distortion to lend the shot this effect.

Could equally be said #'s 1 and 4 show why you shouldn't take photos at this time
Why Alan? I'd be interested in your more detailed thoughts on this.

Of these images I actually like number 5 the best, as the scene wasn't what you would call 'naturally photogenic' but I had a particular shot in mind as I waited near the fence. I had to wait about 10 minutes until the sun lit up the middle distance, but not the foreground. It's nice when something happens as you want it to!

I recently spent some time in and around Flamborough on the Yorkshire Coast - it's well worth a visit for many reasons. Here are just a few snaps taken there, a couple have appeared on the Gallery. All with the K-3, D-Xenon 12-24 and a Hoya Pro1 Polariser.

They just need a bit of TLC don't they? Great shots, very evocative.

Silver ones are £199 on Amazon today, must admit I am tempted if only I didn't have so many cameras already! I am very disappointed with the poor IQ on the WG-3, although my wife loves it. My K-01 is fabulous, but a bit big so doesn't get used as an 'everyday' camera.

I suspect the MX1 is a classic in the making.
