Hi Carol,

In answer to your commentary, I have owned the Tamron and Sigmas equivalent to the Pentax 18-270, both of which were sold to buy the Pentax 18-270.

All ( invlufing the Pentax) were at best disappointing, at worst not usable at the extreme ends and particularly poor wide open.

I bought the 18-135 Pentax because of a comment John Riley made in respect of a review where he actually stated in his opinion after using it the lens was very capable (given that the review might have undersold the capability of the lens).

In my view it is in a different league to the 18-270 Pentax even when a 1.7x conv is fitted.

I never cease to wonder at this great little lens, it is a gem and gas been hammered over the last six years but always delivers.

I kept the K3 just to use with this little aps lens despite having two K1s

It is my "go to" travel lens and despite having the DFA 28-105 FF, it will remain so

Regards

Really nice images, I also like the boat in the cave.

I'm seriously thinking about the 18-135 or the 18-270. I'm sick and tired of changing lenses when I'm out and about. I need one go-to lens for architecture and street shots, has anyone tried the 18-270?

Decided to leave the K1 and DFA's at home for this trip and travel light taking my favourite travel set up, K3/18-135 and it did a good job of these "snapshots" (which is what they are).

Critiques and comments appreciated, particularly on No 8, the "boat in the cave shot" ( ISO 51,2000 hand held ).

For clarification - Pricing on new and used K1s

There has been some discussion on PU recently specifically regarding Pricing on new and used K1s and frankly speaking it is quite frustrating if not curious;

Eg

1. Digital Rev ( Pentax pro centre ): New £1539
https://store.digitalrev.com/product/pentax-k-1-body/MTEwNDYyNQ_A_A

2. Drones for less ( trust pilot checked 8.9/10): New £1500.
http://dronesforless.co.uk/cameras/pentax-k-1-dslr-camera-body-only/
Fully researched; accredited Trust Pilot , PayPal etc but returns can be complicated because products seem to be from shipped from US ( but not grey).
However this was very properly refuted by Dronesforless themselves and by numerous buyer reviews.

3. Bristol cameras New £1579

4. WEX - Discussed with WEX - not able to reduce: Used £1699

I asked Wex would they accept an offer below the price advertised by Digital Rev and they had a discussion and came back saying that £1699 was firm and regarding price of new p£ 1539 was below their cost price . ( WEX are a favourite of mine and one of the most respected retailers out their so their response can be trusted and MAYBE indicates a secondary influence, potentially - how old stock is and when it was purchased)

So the markets for second hand and new K1S are equally diverse pricewise; it is curious to say the least; I checked several other new and used K 1 offers, some at ridiculous prices but not one seller would change their prices.

However we all want the best price from a legitimate or trustworthy seller so shopping around can still save several hundreds of pounds and frankly speaking I saw enough to conclude at todays date

*. The main dealers are pricing in the range £1800 +/- £30
* however there are numerous offers on new at sub £ 1700 the most notable of which is £1539
* But buying used at Sub £1400 for an "as new" is reasonable and realistic based on my review on the net and the cluster of sellers offereing new at £1500- £1600

Did a royal event a couple of weeks back at a very large manor house which was just like a very big wedding ; mixed formal shots (planned) , external and internal and candids of every guest / guest couples .
Lenses;
DFA 24-70 F2.8
DFA 70-200 F 2.8
35mm DG f1.4 Sigma Art
DFA 100mm macro f2.8
2 x K1 bodies
2 metz flash units

The fast Sigma can become essential if the church and /or reception venue are dark.

If the ambient external conditions are bright and the internal settings are well lit by natural light ( big windows) I am very comfortable with just the two zooms and fill in / bounce flash as required.

However, sorry to state the obvious, visit the venue and check internal decor / ceiling colours and the position of the sun at the appropriate times, in relation to the external layout and internal window light.

Regards
