I think most serious web users here in the UK now have broadband. Infact I dont know what I would do without it and that is why I went for a flash site.
Yes, but it's not a website for you or for 'serious web users', it's for people looking for a wedding photographer. A non-flash version would be the ideal solution, as visitors can make the choice between a flashy site or a quick one.

It's not particularly slow on my connection, but I didn't have a look round the whole site because it was slow enough.

...and there was me thinking I was onto a sure-fire winner with a B+W entry! By the way Lilly, what's a "gansey BR"?

Anyway, well done Justgetoutandride and well done Lilly (again) for your swift and fair judging.

I better start looking for any shots with mountain bikes in...

Whoooah... Clarky, Beautiful! Love spider shots... Huntsman?
Huntswoman surely?

Great shot Clarky, but rather you this close to an Ozzy spider than me.

Whatever it is, it just looks good...
Couldn't agree more!

In fact, I could say the same for most of your pics you've posted.

It's the stump of a freshly cut beech tree shot from above (left is the bark, then you can see the active tubes and more to the right the core). The empty hull of a beech-nut lying on it (this is how I found it so I didn't arrange it) gave a nice little extra.
I love this shot, and although it wasn't what I expected to win, it doesn't affect my liking of the shot. Well done! And well done Karma Mechanic (the shot that I thought was going to win).

However, are you sure it was a Beech tree stump? The bark looks far to rough for Beech. Thought it might have been a Sweet Chestnut... (and I do know it's a beech mast casing on it).

Not that it really matters.

You might want to try this one at FFordes:

80-200 f2.8 manual focus (probably not KA?) - £99

https://secure.ffordes.com/index.htm
Definitely not KA. I ebayed one of those for about £80 a month or so ago. Not a bad lens at all, but front element turns when focusing, and a bit of vignetting wide open.

And it's heavy.

Besides i have many nice shots of the Hoverfly but not so many that look like this one
It's easy to get caught up with the urge to get closer, closer, closer!, when better, or at least different, pictures can be had by showing the subject in it's environment.

Nice shot by the way. I'd be tempted to crop a bit off the right hand side - although this cuts across the leaf, I think it tightens the composition up and gives better balance between the hoverfly and flower. Also, it looks a little cold to me, which I'm sure it wasn't.

Roll on Summer (or at least Spring).

For how many years before Samsung brought out their DSLRs was Pentax supplying the 18-55 with their *ist series?
