I was doing an eBay trawl, came across this:

If you look at their shop, they claim to be a UK-based importer.

Maybe UK based but the feedback talks about items being sent from abroad as the seller was on business trip etc.

I hadn't noticed that. They wouldn't be my first choice supplier if I was going to buy this lens, but hopefully it's an indication of price point.

It would be a bit disappointing, given the similarity of the Pentax to the Tamron, if it really was £100 more (looking at the prices on the SRS website, the Tamron is £299, and the Pentax is expected to be £399).

Hi all,

The £399 is the expected SRP - I will be doing it for a bit less ( I need to know my pricing before I can be accurate!) - and, of course, Pentax User forum members get free postage!!

Once I know the final price I will let everyone know...

Here's one advertised from the US but shipped from Japan which is going for around £280 + postage.
That's pretty good, although once you add on the shipping, duty and VAT I reckon it'll be about £370. If it was a choice between that and SRS, it would be SRS for all the usual reasons.

However, I managed to snap up an FA 80-320 last night, sadly for somewhat more than one that went a few weeks back for £67.

So that puts any plans for the 18-250 back until I've done some serious selling (probably of body parts).

90 quid . Your govt sure has you guys on a tight leash
Hypothetically if i was too purchase this lens on your behalf and mail it on too you would you then have to pay Vat on it :

£67 is good price for the 80-320 i have bid on 3 of these over the last few months and none have gone for under £85

Well IIRC the duty is 7%, the VAT is 17.5%, and they both get charged on the postage as well, I think George said.

So 280 + 17 (shipping was that approx I think) = 297 gives:

297 x 1.07 x 1.175 = 373.

One went as a Buy It Now for £50 in October. But that's extraordinary, I think - the seller couldn't have known its value.

Another one went for £110 a week or two back. I paid a little bit more than that - probably a bit over the odds. Hopefully it's a good one.

Almost. The duty is on the value of the goods. VAT is then on that total plus the postage cost. You then have to add the handling fees to that . If Parcelforce deliver it, it's about £17 flat rate and if Royal Mail deliver it, it's slightly less. I think about £12.

So even more then

280 x 1.07 = 300.

+ 17 for the eBay shipping fee = 317

x 1.175 = 372.

+ 17 for Parcelforce = 389.

That's got to be at least as much as buying it from SRS.

Remind me again how it's possible to get it cheaper from overseas?

Depends on the lens and where it's from. I paid £264 plus £16 postage for a DA 14mm. The average price over here is £500 or thereabouts. You can find the 31 Ltd for just over £400. On the other hand, the prices for the new DA* quite be higher.

A quick holiday to New York usually works and keeps her indoors sweet too... Not exactly a 'cheap' option if your lady is anything like mine tho!!!
