The K-5 now has 5 user modes. However, there is only one user mode position on the mode dial and you'll have to select which one of five modes to use.
Hadn't seen that before, it'll be appreciated by many.

I was in Cameraworld in Chelmsford earlier, they had one for £300 I believe, no idea of shutter count though.

Hmmm, not sure. The only 'Update' button I can see is part of the moderator tools, other than that I have 'Edit' and 'Delete', but again, I'm assuming these are only available to mods, or at least the 'edit' option is.

I'm afraid I can't remember how it was before I became a mod - any chance of a screen shot?

I think THIS is a pretty good price.

Quite tempted by that actually.
Hmmm, and I still have a £10 gift voucher to spend there...

Only thing is, as far as I know, they're not Pro Dealers any more, so only a 1 year warranty.

Another big thumbs up for Jon's explanation above.

Focal length also affects the field of view and perspective, in just the same way that it does at 'normal' distances. The first shot below was taken with a 24mm lens with an extension tube, and to further clarify the working distance comments above, the nearest toadstool was nearly touching the front element of the lens. Notice how there is obvious 'distance' to the background.

The second shot was with a 105mm, and everything looks more 'contained', as perspective has been compressed by the use of the telephoto lens.

Often it won't be noticeable, but sometimes the focal length you choose will have a big impact on the look of the background.

what about this (send the person you have just chosen a message to prompt them??)
Surely that's backwards? You don't choose them, you just pick a photo from the previous poster.

But I think the thread's a good idea too, but it was me that raised the point about noting who the photo's by, especially at the moment as it's not flowing consecutively yet, and I doubt it ever will. There will always be people commenting on the pics between photos. Just noting who took the image posted makes it clear.

I've started taking photos of graffiti I find amusing, but it's rare that I see much 'art' in graffiti. But then, if the art was intended to amuse...

I actually took one today, which may end up being entered into David's competition. In the meantime, here's one I took in January, which I thought was the work of an indecisive graffiti artist.

Of course, on the other end of the scale, and making use of all these pixels, ISO80 coupled with my 12-24 for landscapes will (hopefully) be sublime.
This isn’t film; completely different rules apply.

No, the same basic principles apply. The best IQ will come from the lowest ISO setting, regardless of whether it is film or digital.
I think you'll find it's not the same, that's why lower ISOs are often offered as 'extended' options. The pixels can get over-saturated with the longer exposure needed, reducing dynamic range and image quality.
