K5, was it worth the wait?

Now the specs and preliminary videos are appearing and getting well known, was the wait for the K5 worth it?

Who of us out there is going to upgrade to it?
Cheers, HG

Probably... I think... unless a D800 is announced beforehand and D700 prices drop like a stone!

I'm getting too frustrated at the lack of a camera to wait for the prices to drop.

I know about a week after I get mine the price will drop and there will be a cash back offer too, but that will happen whether I buy it asap or wait until January .

Interesting answers so far.

I only ask because I was wondering about a K7, then saw the K5 spec sheet.

The price for the K5 seems high, even by Pentax standards, and as such I thought would deter people.

Nobody interested in a K7 at the reduced price it'll hit then?
Cheers, HG

"high"? Its the same as the K7 when that came out. I think the only thing they were caught-out by was the D7000. Unless you have been reading the american forums, which are full of endless QQ about the $400 price difference over there (there is no significant difference in the EU, for once).

I wasn't interested in the K7 regardless of price - lack of high ISO.

DPReview has K-5 & kit lens listed at £1200 at launch

K-7 at launch was £1200 body only.

To me, thats cheaper!

Are theye really going to sell any with a price higher than a Nikon D7000? The Nikon is probably not as good in many respects but it is apparently better spec'ed and has better perceived profile than a pentax.

K5 seems to only be a k7 with some drip-feed 'improvements'....I suppose they have to keep something back for hte k4 next year..(??) At this rate I'm never going to get what I'm waiting for.....

Buy a different brand then.

Simples.
If you can't say something nice about Pentax, you won't say anything at all.

Apparently.

Only having had a quick glance at the specs, for my use (landscapes) I don't see much to tempt me from the K20D which I'm very happy with - improved Live View would be useful for tripod mounted shots but I don't see much else?? My thoughts are pretty much the same for the K-7 too, only the smaller/lighter body seems appealing.

At least not being tempted by new bodies leaves me free to spend cash on lenses !!

If we always wait for the "best", we will never get out there taking pictures...

D7000 is £1100 body only.

K-5 is £1200 with kit lens.

These are predictions based on what DPReview think they will be selling at, so at the moment, the difference is around £50? Worth moaning about when neither is on sale yet and we don't really know the prices yet?

What exactly are you waiting for BTW?

Am I the only one that thinks that the K-5 looks like a fantastic camera?

You are either a Pentax user or not. Keep waiting for the next best thing and end up sitting on the fence for the rest of your photography days... Me personally, as a K10D/K20D and K7 user, each camera has it's merits. Change will continue to bring out "Better?" and it will cost to keep up. Depends on how deep your pockets are. Get out there and take some great images - the Pentax range of cameras and lenses is all you need
Regards
David

Retired at last - now all that time for photography - you would think: wink:
