1,129 body only on Amazon, SRS haven't announced "their competitive price" yet AFAIK.

i'd have a k-5 over a 7d. matter of preference, but still. also, you are comparing the k-5's launch price to the 7d's settled price. i don't think the k-5 is overpriced at all at the moment. it'll come down in a few months.

$1599 to 1699 in Canada but we'll see what happens when it hits the shelves, closer to Christmas..
Fired many shots. Didn't kill anything.

It is supposed to hit the shelves the week after next. I know this is ridiculously optimistic of me but that is the story - and Pentax so far seem to be sticking to it.

Jacobs Photo & Digital were offering the K5 body for 999 but have put the price up to 1129. They are offering a voucher for 120 with the two lens kit at 1299,

I see that Amazon uk give the 18th October as the great day it will be available.

I'm still pondering if I should get it with the DA 18-135 or not
I already have that range perfectly covered with the DA*16-50 and the DA*50-135 but it seems like such a handy range for when I don't want to carry any extra camera gear... it can also be handy if someone will borrow my K10D.

So what to do...

its not worth spending 50% of the price of the body, on a lens you already have covered by the two DA*s - which are much faster and not significantly more expensive! (2nd hand). If you are that indecisive about what sort of shots you are wanting to take, you might as well get a superzoom and go longer, because if its too wet for one of those you aren't going to be able shoot much longer than 100mm anyway so you could have stuck to one of the DA*...

I thought about it, until I saw the price, and decided I'll take the 12-24 on one body, and the 50-135 on another (which one is the Kx and which is the K5 will depend on testing). That's my walking sorted. Oh, unless I ditch the whole lot and go for a FF - last holiday every day walking I was unhappy with any lens longer than 30mm, and even then I wanted to put the 12-24 on instead... and that's before I played with someone's D3 at the weekend in the dark...
Still shooting in the dark (literally and metaphorically)...
