...and if we buy from a Pentax Pro Dealer, we get a 2 year guarantee too.

guys!

its a repair for accidental damge plan not a warranty as such!
thats the bit im paying for.
I know, we're not discussing that (well, I'm not anyway ), it seems like a good deal and gives you added protection that a guarantee, or the SoGA wouldn't.

Peter, I know that article (letter) is 6 years old, but it is directly related to this issue.

I just thought I'd actually look into this myself, as you mention it frequently, but I hadn't ever seen anything about it. It would be interesting to look further, and whether there actually is anything in UK law that gives a 2 year guarantee, not liability limitation with onus of proof on the consumer, but it's late now, and the clocks go forward tonight, and I'm working tomorrow so have to be bright and breezy for my workshop participants.

Totally agree Peter, except that in the U.K. it's six years, the two years is the minimum. The only real difference between this document and the Trading Standards one is that the T.S. one states to whom the burden of proof applies. You could argue that the E.U. one implies the seller is responsible, but without explicit instruction to that effect, it's quite safe to assume that any U.K. court would use the specifics contained in the SoGA.

Your camera has 2 years warranty against manufacturing faults or defects. That's European law.

Why do manufacturers still try to pull the wool over the eyes of the british public by stating 12 months warranty when they know darned well they have to give 24 months? Just because they can?
From the Trading Standards website here:

Quote:
A trader or manufacturer is under no obligation to provide a guarantee, and if they do, they can specify any time span, for example six months, twelve months or three years. They can also specify what is to be covered by the guarantee, and exclude certain parts, or wear and tear. They cannot, however, take away any rights you would have under the Sale of Goods Act.
Apparently (read elsewhere) the Sale of Goods Act gives you 6 years in which to claim against a retailer if the item was faulty when sold, although this would be hard to prove if you had 'accepted' the item as being fit for purpose. It is this time-frame that the E.U. has legislated needs to be at least 2 years, not the guarantee period.

Perhaps you're not familiar with 'Argos' - a very upmarket store, and as you know exclusivity comes at a price. Personal shoppers, a refined atmosphere, calm and restful, it's a real pleasure to be served at Argos and well worth the premium price.

This discussion has been had once or twice before, and I think this interview quoted. However, I would suggest the fact that many of the 'Schneider' lenses were available as Pentax ones long before the Samsung ones were available would suggest they are indeed Pentax designs.
