I find that my K10D tends to underexpose more in dark situations...Me too... :):) (sorry, couldn't resist...)

Going by the recommendations, just having the 2x DA* zooms (16-50 & 50-135) would probably be enough, with the low light primes in the bag just in case?I sure hope so - that's what I'm aiming for... Got the DA* zooms... Still deciding between a FA50 or an FA35... Faster or shorter... hmmmm...

ChrisA, I like the new Avatar!Yeah - very cool - Ever since I first heard of a tessaract (spelling?), I've tried to visualize one, and when I noticed it, your avatar killed about 10 minutes as I stared at it.... kinda mesmerizing... Wow, I gotta get out more...

Matt - logistically and geographically, attendance for me would be out of the question, but would you consider recording / podcasting or something along those lines? I'm sure there are others like myself who are too far away, but would be delighted to 'siphon' off some of your expertise... (and make paypal donations for the privilege...)
Remote shutter release Cable / IR remote
Posted in Pentax Digital SLRs
I don't have a wired remote for my K10D yet* but I have done the same with many, many audio setups in the past. I have a collection of adapters - if it is industry standard, any standard, I can probably make it work with the adapters and cables I have... * no real need as i have the Pentax F remote in my grip for the short range stuff (it's only good for up to 15 feet so, and an old 'universal' remote (think tv or stereo remote) that I had laying around lets me get up to about 40 feet away. kind of clunky - about the width and length of the grip and almost half as thick, and 28 buttons, of which about 5 or 6 of them actually fire the shutter... but it works well, and was free...:?
Remote shutter release Cable / IR remote

Or... (if you don't feel like performing surgery on your current cable, you could always make an extension (or two) whatever length you want... All you need is some cable, a male 2.5mm stereo jack, and a female 2.5mm jack.

That was a test - the built-in spell-checker identified the first one (with the u) as an error. This is still pentaxuser.co.uk is it not?We don't have a built-in spell checker, that's a feature of your web browser. I use Firefox and have mine set up to spell check UK so in my test color was flagged as incorrect.Oops....:oops::oops: I'll have to check my Firefox options...

H: "He's right, although if everyone had them to use it would put a lot of pros out of work so they conspire with the manufacturers to keep the supply limited. Look, it even says so on the lens itself." (H points to the word Limited on the front)Well that explains the prices these lenses are commanding...:D

...After about five posts you get rid of those adds. And what remains?? So much blank unused space...Maybe they could use less horizontal space and more vertical space on the right edge of the page... I'll have to come back and post comments on the redesign after I've had a chance to see more (been reading this thread for the past 30 minutes or so) but I will say that I liked the colour scheme of the old one much, much more than this...

...50-135 with crop factor is 75-200, so it works out fine...Agreed. But before I purchased the DA* 50-135, my rationale was "Wow, the same lens now gives me an extra 100mm reach, at the same speed..." (maybe not technically correct, but that's the practical effect) so I'm not entirely sure that argument alone is enough to sway a potential buyer... If you got stellar copies of the 24-80 and the 80 - 200, and paired them up with a 16(17) - 50 - you have the entire effective range from 25mm to 300mm covered at 2.8 with high performance glass... Toss in a DA*200 or DA*300 and a good TC (maybe Pentaxes announced but not here yet SDM converter) and you'd have covered up to 400mm and beyond with premium glass... The Pentax is expensive. Having said that, in my opinion, in hindsight, it was worth it. But you wouldn't have convinced me of the before the purchase... Jamie (saving for the DA* 200 and 300)

I, too, wanted and waited for a 80 -200 2.8 lens, but finally gave up and got the Pentax DA* 50-135 and.... WOW - am I ever glad I decided not to wait any longer... It's the sharpest longer lens I've used.... After using it, I'm working on replacing my Sigma EX28-80 2.8 with the DA* 16-50 - hoping the difference will be as easily noticeable...
Home made monopod?
Posted in General Photographic Discussion
The base on my (and possibly your) drill press can be adjusted for height, and though this wouldn't, in itself, solve your problem, the column that supports the drill head, and the table, is a round column, so the table can be swung out of the way... Then it's just a case of finding something tall enough to support the "stick-pod" at the right height... OR... Clamp a drill (not a drill press) on its side to a workbench, and (very carefully) feed the "stick-pod" into it. You may need to shim either the drill or the stick to centre the hole... (actually, you could clamp the stick to a board and slide it along a board clamped to the table, like a sled along an edge guide...) Edit : If you cut the end off the stick, save it - drill a matching hole and epoxy a matching nut in (careful to line up the pieces before the epoxy sets) - it'd look better when used as just a walking stick, and protect the tripod bolt when not actually being used.

AS a card carrying member of PETA I think that..... Darn - can't even type that with a straight face... Have to side with Don on this one - There isn't a lamb recipe in the world that can stand up to a properly done strip loin steak... (In my opinion, anyway  )

wouldn't it be great, if something came up from the soil, on mars and swallowed the little rover? then everybody on our planet could set aside all our differences, form one world government, and become "Speci*ists" as we band together, to hate our planetary neighbours! If only... Though there's way too much hate for that... Like dumping the Pacific into a teapot... Now if there was a bunch of alien races to hate and kill, we might be able to manage...
The perfect kit
Posted in Lenses for Pentax Cameras
Top 5 currently owned? Well... I don't have 5 lenses I'd bother to carry everywhere... but hopefully by the end of the summer it'll be : Sigma DC 10-20 EX f4-5.6 (current) Pentax FA 35 f2 (ordered) Pentax DA* 16-50 f2.8 (ordered) Pentax DA* 50-135 f2.8 (current) Pentax DA* 300 f4 and when the Pentax SDM TC comes out, it'll probably replace the 1.7x I have now... (hmm.. should probably sell it before the new one is announced...) Actually, is there any news on what (and when) the SDM Converter is supposed to be?

Although the bidding charges could get prohibitive if you got into a bidding war... I'll have to watch that one a bit... Didn't see any Pentax gear in the current or future bids right now...
fixing and avoiding lens flare
Posted in General Digital Photography Discussion
I kind of like the flare in this shot, but flare issues aside, look at how blue the sky on the right is, and how blue they sky isn't on the left side... On a lens this wide, the effect of polarizing at any particular rotation of the filter will only cover a portion of your field of view because of the angle of reflection that the light hitting the filter has gone through... Actually this website explains it so much better... scroll down just a bit and you'll see... (That said, I still use one occasionally on my 10-20... I just remove the hood, as my fat finger can't seem to turn the polarizer without smudging the lens...)
