Battery grip and picture preview

Hi,

When I attach my battery grip to my K10D, I don't get the post picture view on the display screen. Works fine without the battery grip. Is there anyway I can change the camera settings to facilitate this?

Any help appreciated as always

I don't think there's any setting that you could change, as the grip shouldn't make any difference to this.

My guess is that your right hand (near your little finger), is half-pressing the shutter button on the grip and this is stopping the screen showing your shot. If this might be the case, try it again ensuring that you're holding the camera in a way that your hand won't touch the grip's shutter button to see if this makes any difference, at least to test this theory.

I quite often will hear my camera focusing on stuff when I'm carrying it, and this is when my hand presses the grip's shutter button.

Hi Dan,

You know what....I think you may be absolutely right! How embarassing. Will think of a more difficult one next time

Many thanks

Hi Dan

Just out of interest, how do you rate the DA* 300mm, I have the 16-50 and 50-135 form the series, the latter of which I particularly like, would you recommed the 300mm as well?

Absolutely! It's been a lovely lens to use, with a decent close focus capability (not macro by any means, but great for flowers etc), and for wildlife too. It's beautifully sharp, and the bokeh's great.

Here are a few links to pics taken with it:

Amer, if you need a lens with this focal length, and you can afford it, I'd have no hesitation in recommending it.

Thanks Dan

Love the damsel fly. You hit the nail on the head, money!!!! Just brought two other lenses, 16-50 and 50-135, so will hold back a while but the 300mm is definelty next.

This is why I keep the power switch on the grip in the off position. (unless actually shooting vertically)

Quick question though - does the switch control just the buttons and dials, or does it cut off the battery entirely? Ideally, IMHO, the battery would be live and the controls dead with the grip powered off...

But, from my observations based on usage, this is not the case... YMMV

From my experience the grip does not have to be switched on for the battery to be 'live'

I don't have a battery in the grip, so can't help you. I just prefer the feel of the camera with grip in place.

Of course it does! Take the battery out of the camera, then put on grip with battery to see!

The power switch on the grip has no influence over the battery. I routinely use my camera with a battery only in the grip, not the body. My grip power switch is always off, until I need it.

Well, I'm glad I was wrong, ...happy to stand corrected.

Thanks.
