I'm looking personally at a ProRunner 450, as that should take the (deep breath) 100-300, k5, 24-70, 135, 28, 50, two flashes, 15" laptop, k10, spares and still have some space left over. The 650AW does it already and is frequently accepted as hand luggage, too.

We are not being pushed. Why on earth would you think that?

Pentax and Tokina - Tok make lenses for Pentax which are then exclusively marketed and sold as Pentax. Hence no Tok lenses.
Financial reality - Pentax is a small market and were obviously willing to outsource lens development. If this means the survival of the brand, then...... I don't have a problem with it.

We were there for a few hours... it was impressive. I'm going back to the prison, definitely, and I'll take a bunch of kit with.

C&C welcome...

... and blowers move the dust around, so it can get in the viewfinder. There's another thread on exactly the same problem elsewhere....

This is from today, with the siggy 100-300, not cropped. 300mm, f8, 1/640, ISO2000 (!), it's been sharpened a tad.

This lens has a minimum focus distance of 1.8m; that, considering it's well over a foot long with a hood on, means you're just out of range of the butterfly's irritant zone

So the end of the lens is around 4 feet / 1.2m from the insect. I don't know if the DA300 focuses even closer?!

Edit says: Yes, it does focus closer, by about another 400mm. So you're talking 1.4m / 4' 8" - i.e. 3 feet from your insect. At this point, I don't see the point of a 180 macro....

reading this -http://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/pentax-dslr-discussion/120535-larger-buffer-m...#post1247155 - the implication is that there's a 750MB/s bus on the inside. However, if it's also running USB2, then that limits things to 60MB and I would not be surprised if diminishing returns hit in after Extreme IIIs. I'd be interested in the time it takes to clear the buffer, as:

500MB buffer @ 25MB/s --> 20s to clear (seems to fit). I'd have to check, but this would seem completely reasonable. Espeically then that the u II takes another 25s, ergo 10-12MB/s.
