Just updated firmware. Tried focus speed before and after. No change here. Where you on firmware 1.3?

This subject is something I have raised in the past.

I take shots at local running events and the hit rate drops off considerably the closer they get. Panning no problem. Moving away no problem. Closing in not good at all.
Use K10-50-135 SDM-centre focus point-AF-C. Sometimes go manual pre focus both eyes open and fire just before. Does require practice.
Think I may have read somewhere the manufacturers are trying to develop predictive focusing. For these very reasons.
Bought the SDM hoping it would improve the hit rate. It did not. Smooth and quiet and cracking when you get one. But the problem seems to lie with the AF system. And reading above does not inspire me to rush and buy a K7.
Heres one I prepared earlier. Pre sdm. Taken with Sigma 70-200 2.8

I have one for sale if you are looking for one. Originl box all the paper work etc. Excellent condition. Moved up to a sigma f2.8 70-200 so does not get much use now.
Make me an offer

Unless it was a very good P+S you would have missed it anyway. Have seen so many folks miss shots while it focuses, calculates exposure re focuses and then finally shoots.
Def take the 18-55. People milling about in your way etc.
On the panning front I put the right eye to the viewfinder so the left over hangs the body. Keep the left open this will help you maintain a visual lock on the car becauses when you release the shutter everything goes black just when you need to see the most. You can still use the same pre focus trick as with the other shots. Also when you are panning pick the car up early and swing through as you release the shutter, do not abruptly stop when you press it. Works for me

I am with you on this. Do I need to replace my K10 no, does what I need it to do. Does that stop me looking at new stuff? No. However, looked no further once I had handled a newer body. Do not like the grip at all.
My choice would be the new tech in an istD body. Value now = same as a door stop but I loved that body just suited me down to the ground.
