IR photos

Second one for me too. Love the way the sky comes through. Very interesting effect. I take it, it is a one way conversion? Thanks. I think the sun may have been in the right position (or out a bit more) so the leaves were emitting more light and hence the sky is less over-exposed. The conversi...

Busy Bee

Nice, would have cloned out the hair on the sensor up the top though :D

A Kingfisher and a Hobby!

Took three and a half hours and a numb bum (and strangely enough just as it appeared a member of the SRS team turned up!), but I finally got a shot of a Kingfisher today! As a bonus there were also a couple of Hobbies flying around. Unfortunately, too far away for a decent shot, but my first and...

Quick whizz with the Macro

Difficult backgrounds to isolate totally, but worth a play with a wider aperture to reduce dof further. I'm not seeing sharpening artefacts, but the first may have some sensor dust spots top right and centre left?

First shots on IR-converted body

I had a brief opportunity today to take some shots with the body I converted to IR. It shows promise, but I managed to get a few bits of dust in there as well, so I'll strip it down and fix that tomorrow. In the meantime these show the general nature of the images I'm getting: Both on ...

First shots on IR-converted body

You're clearly getting there! Exposure will always be hit and miss as there's no way of knowing how much IR light is present. However, it's always been the same, so I guess there's always going to be an element of surprise when you look at the results. With the filter on the lens the meter saw mo...

St Cross Hospital - IR on reworked body

I spent some time today reworking the filter arrangements in the converted body in order to get rid of some dust between the sensor and the filter. I also managed to touch part of the circuit connected to the flash capacitor for the first time - and believe me I'm not going to repeat that  ...

St Cross Hospital - IR on reworked body

... It is so nice to be using speeds like 1/250th at f/8 in IR. Are the same settings not achievable with a IR filter in front of the lens? No, the sensor has a filter in front of it which cuts out the IR. Using a filter on the front that cuts out visible light in conjunction with the built-in filt...

Grass Seed-heads

Just a bit soft for me. One observation - it does show up a dusty sensor! :(

Patience, precision, pins 'n' needles...

Welcome to the miniature world that is - macrophotography. "What DOF?" - to get a deeper DOF, you'll know that you need to use the smaller apertures, f11, f16, and even smaller, but that reduces the amount of light hitting the sensor. To achieve those smaller apertures you need to increase the li...

Some flies

I want to hit #1 witha lump hammer!! Damn things have been annoying me all week. Cool pics though. The furry antenna are great :) - couldn't you train it to clean your sensor? :)

K5 @ ISO 25600

Well I am fortunate enough to have joined the K5 club after a trip to SRS on Saturday morning. I must say it is a very different beast to my K20. After a very limited play yesterday i took a quick shot of the moon trying to peek through thick cloud cover. It was hand held in green mode and auto IS...

Welding Mask Glass

When a long exposure is finished the camera creates a dark frame with an exposure of the same duration, but with the shutter closed. In camera processing uses this dark frame, which is basically made up of sensor noise, and subtracts that noise from the main exposure. Some Pentax models allow you...

Welding Mask Glass

I've just had a very quick play with my new expensive gold plated welding glass. (According to the Flickr group the gold ones give a better colour cast) The £5 investment seems worth it as this shot of the sun (through a shade 13) has been done on auto white balance, and the only PP has been a cro...

HDR effort from dawn this morning

Out in the Eden valley very early waiting for dawn to rise this morning. Quite a variety so had a go at using the bracketing feature on the K-5 and merging them with photomatix. K-X didn't really allow bracketing via remote. Dawn was quite beautiful with the mist following the River Eden. Not sure I...

Kingfisher update

Alan (a.k.a. Blytheman), This, and the previous set, are truly deserving of the high praise heaped upon them. It has been immensely satisfying to pore over each shot and revel in their artistry and technical mastery. The many hours spent planning and patiently watching have been fulsomely rewarde...

London riot 2011

Oh!!! guys!! would like to say a big big sorry to everyone here, Yes in fact I used a X100 for this set of photos. I didn't even think about it before posting. If it has to be removed then please do so to ensure it is fair to all users. However if John and keep a link to my flickr website so that...

Bodelwyddan Castle July 2011

Congrats on not over saturating these the sky is a proper colour. However they could do with a little sharpening and the contrast pushed a tad just to give them a little more punch. The shot through the doorway requires straightening and you also have a little dust on your sensor. Nice set though. ...

Langford Lakes

Very nice set ! #2 is my favourite but I do think you'e over-cropped these and if you add in the P.P. then the effect is a slightly unnatural looking re. the KF shots - almost painting-like actually. Sometimes a little less crop and some more of the environment is not a bad thing ! Full marks fo...
