K5 High ISO

What a sensor! As Churchill would say.... Oh Yes! Have just had a suggestion passed on to me for underexposing by a couple of stops on the K5 when shooting RAW then adjusting the exposure later, going to try it as soon as I get the opportunity. If it works then that could push shutter speeds or...

The quality of the ist DS

I always thought my istDL produced very clean but rather processed looking images when viewed 1:1... in other words a little bit of sharpening and smoothing of detail. This resulted in very punchy images, it must be said! When I look at my old istDL2 shots at web sizes, they are crisp and smooth. ...

First from the Sigma 17-50 OS HSM

First and last shots without NR. When I do use NR, it is very low. I am happy with the results. I may have a sensor/body/mount snag on the K7 as that sign of vignetting in the top left corner was also there on the 16-50 Pentax (actually a bit more due to the wider view). Anyway, n...

Skiing in Samoens

I love #2 & #3. However I think you could do with cleaning that noise up in #2.

"The Anomaly" at Brighton

Romulan ship about to de-cloak? wet cleaned your sensor recently? I get a bit fed up of these flippant, half humorous remarks. Don, DONT be so silly:shock: Its obvious its a Klingon Warbird:P Alan, I dont know about the Anomaly but these are quite noisy for what appears to be quite a ...

"The Anomaly" at Brighton

something like a thermal? Now your being silly Stefan, Brighton is in the UK, we dont get thermals:D I think it would be intersting to see the images seperately, especially the ones either side of the one with the problem, I thought it was dirty sensor but why is only one image affected.

"The Anomaly" at Brighton

Sensor's never been swiped. I've only ever used a rocket blower, and only found the need to do so a few times ever since owning the camera. The pattern was already there before I stitched the photos together. Noise from the close-up image is the effect of post-processing and Genuine Fractals enla...

"The Anomaly" at Brighton

Well it doesn't look like one of those sprite thingies (although I must they are pretty cool), it doesn't look like a UFO, and its not one of the four horsemen of the apocalypse. Stefan's explanation makes most sense to me, unless it's some sort of sensor issue. Would be interested to see other shot...

Startrails for 5 hours above my house.

What would a fully charged battery get you - an hour or two? Well, there is a bit of a clue in the title... I dont want to go down the route of a couple of uber-long exposures for a very good reason: The image sensor get's much warmer on very long exposures and a great deal of noise creeps in...

Startrails for 5 hours above my house.

Really great result there Bob and my hat goes off to those that try this with a DSLR. :o The only problem I have with taking long star trail images using a DSLR is the thought of that wear & tear on the camera electronics and all that post processing just to produce star trails still done better ...

Stars

Hello Roger Really nice images. I think you probably struck the best compromise ISO versus exposure time...always compromises. The only way to record more stars while lowering your ISO is to increase exposure time slightly by mounting your camera on an astronimical motor drive of som...

SMC Pentax-M 100mm f/2.8

it's stunning on film. it does not show the real face on the digital. a bit lack of contrast. did you set 'bright' or 'natural'? Neither. As I shoot RAW those settings have no effect. I like both of the colour versions a lot, but on my screen the digital looks slightly underexposed & the film sl...

Day Out in Liverpool

Here's a couple more from the day: This is the top (chimney section if you like) of the stairwell from image three. I was at the top of the stairwell looking up into this section. Up above is an open area where you can walk over this translucent ceiling. At 10mm it just looks surreal. And...

Blown Highlights - OK or not?

Blown Highlights? Black Shadows? Its only clipping! A technical photographic recording would not have either of these. Art should have no limits. Sometimes we strive to be technically perfect at the expense creativity. A beautifully composed, technically perfect photo can stagger the...
