Finch Foundry

Thanks everyone. Glad they struck a chord. I have to say this place deserves the close attention of a photographer with a camera fitted with a top class sensor which operates well at high ISO and mounted on a tripod. Not the quick hand held whip-round it got from me and the K100!

Visit to a mine in WA (7 images)

A Grand Day Out

The wheelbarrow shot is excellent. #1 needs a bit of straightening, the roof line isn't quite horizontal. Your sensor needs cleaning. There are a substantial number of blobs in the sky of #1.

A Grand Day Out

The wheelbarrow shot is excellent. #1 needs a bit of straightening, the roof line isn't quite horizontal. Your sensor needs cleaning. There are a substantial number of blobs in the sky of #1. I couldn't decide if it was straight or not as the line of the lake seems to go the other way  ...

More from the spottie but in colour!

Thanks for the crit, they are all a little bit 'thoughtless snaps' I was basically running a colour film to check the camera was all ok. They are straight scans and I agree a bit of PP would help them a bit (straightening and cleaning the negs would be a good start).

Fife as promised

Well we had a good week in Fife, slightly grey and damp. No crab snadwiches as the sea was too rough for the boats to go out! Here are three shots Comment and constructive criticsm welcome. Dave

Non Pentax gallery shots

A camera is a box that concentrates light onto a sensor... Blimey, have you been reading the K5 threads? Talk about pixels at dawn...

Non Pentax gallery shots

I don't see how anyone could object - as long as you gloss over / don't mention the fact that the body you used was a Canon, and the lens exhibits typically Pentaxy qualities! DSLRs are just a box with a sensor anyway, arguably it's the lens where the Pentaxiness resides

Old trams

I'd love to visit this place, Kris... Nice detailed shots, although it's comforting to see blown highlights from an old fashioned negative. Perhaps I'd better stop moaning about the narrow dynamic range of my sensor...

The Kitchen Garden in Autumn

You know if your across the water and local and want to lend the 90mm for a shoot then all you have to do is ask :D The pumpkin shot is also nice, again I'm drawn to the repetition but also to the colours, maybe a faster lens, don't you have a hoya 28mm? that would of allowed for shallow DOF and ...

X90 Moon Shot

f/2.8-5.0 26x zoom lens 4.6mm-119.6mm equivalent to 26-676mm in 35mm so the x90 has a crop sensor of 5.65x 4.6mmx5.65 =25.99mm 119.6mmx5.65 =675.74mm hope that helps.

First daylight shots with my K-7 - F1 & F2 stock cars at Northampton

The difference in sensor could also account for it. Maybe it is the sensor "outresolving" the lens. CMOS sensors also give a different look than CCDs do in my experience.

Pentax's best kept - secret weapon

I seem to recall the *ist has the same sensor as my K110. I still use my K110 as a street camera, with much the same results, although I prefer a 100m on the front.:D

Bought a 'new' scanner :)

I like the results you've got from the BW400C. I tried the Fuji equivalent recently and was pretty disappointed with how they turned out - very gritty and poor contrast. Might have to give that Kodak a spin instead. :) The scanner looks to have done a very good job too. I'd like a dedicated fi...

Getting stacked.

It's nice to see someone having a go with focus stacking- I'm not entirely sure this shot shows any advantage over shooting at F22 to 32- please see my 'Robber II' at F32, I do think you have done a great job manually stacking in PS - whenever I stack I use Helicon- no problems so far. Cheers, Gary ...

Dont be shy

There were some good Mk1 Kit lenses. I couldn't tell the difference between the Mk1 I got with the *istDs and a later Mk2. Another (late model) Mk1 I had was not in the same league. I had thought the mk 2 was brought out with the k20 to cope better with the extra pixels on it's sensor, so I tho...

Around Newcastle with a K5

I'm just as chuffed with your reactions as I am with the new camera. A couple of comments: Alan, yes the train on the bridge seemed to be slighttly skewed to me too but when I put it onto the distort grid it was perfectly level. Jonathan: Yes there is an unsightly smudge in the first picture. I...

Few shots with the K-5 and Bigma.

This would be a good combo to test, using the raptor up on the ledge of the church spire - the last time we saw a shot of yours like that, one was feasting on pigeon. I recall you saying it was a hefty crop that time - with this sensor, it might do even better.
