First shots on IR-converted body

I had a brief opportunity today to take some shots with the body I converted to IR. It shows promise, but I managed to get a few bits of dust in there as well, so I'll strip it down and fix that tomorrow. In the meantime these show the general nature of the images I'm getting:







Both on the Sigma 10-20mm at 10mm, 250th at f/8 and ISO 200. Internal filter is part of a Hoya R72 cut to 28x22mm over the sensor. The edges aren't good, the left edge in particular is a bit blurry but I could get used to cropping them a bit...

Exposure is a bit hit and miss, since it is now metering the normal light. The above were about a stop underexposed, while some shots in the woods came out about 3 stops over. It is all a learning curve!

You're clearly getting there!

Exposure will always be hit and miss as there's no way of knowing how much IR light is present. However, it's always been the same, so I guess there's always going to be an element of surprise when you look at the results.

With the filter on the lens the meter saw mostly IR, so that did tend to give more accurate exposures. I'll probably take a test shot and use the histogram to set a manual exposure for critical stuff. Just wondering what else I can do while it is in bits - might try to move the sensor forwards 0.5mm so that the viewfinder focus matches sensor focus.

Considering the fact you had a very complicated item in bits and then put it together again I'm amazed at the quality of the shots.
