Decent cheap trail camera

Can I ask - do you set the flash on these cameras? I'd expect the IR lens still needs an IR light source - I ask as I know some animals can see into IR wavelength and worry I'll startle them, might be the wavelength is still out of visible spectrum. The things I've got are stand-alone, all-in-one ...

Decent cheap trail camera

I'd be interested in whether any shots - either night or daytime - are good enough for a print or whether they're more 'educational' rather than artistic? I've been toying for ages with a DSLR with a PIR trigger for some garden shots, wondering if this would be a more prudent approach. (Finally,...

Mounting a lens from a folding camera onto a digital one

I recently posted some results from mounting a Trioplan lens that was in a Pronto shutter mechanism onto a K1. Here is a Schneider Radionar on a K5 as well as the Trioplan on the K1. Some members asked how I did it. To start, you have to acquire your vintage shutter mechanism (which wil...

A ghost story

The photographer had lived alone with no family to mourn his passing. His house laid empty for five years, furniture gathering dust until finally new owners moved in and started cleaning when they found a bag tucked away under the stairs. Inside was a beautiful Pentax camera and to their surprise th...

It would be interesting to see how it differs from a setting of 2.8. Under reporting the SR setting (not sure if 2.8mm is possible) will have no adverse effect on the image. The reason is that the sensor shift will be minuscule. This is why when folk ask what they should set a zoom lens to, if ...

Connect an SD card to a Samsung Galaxy Tab A 2016 to view images

Has anyone had any success connecting an SD card to a Samsung Galaxy Tablet so that images can be viewed? I want to do this so that I can check I haven't picked up dust on the sensor. The frustration of being away on holiday and then getting back with thousands of images, only to notice a dust speck...

Printing From Home

Generally, at least in North America, photographers are going for Canon printers, while commercial printers (like in printing presses, not commercial photo printers) are going mainly for Epson printers. Not that there is anything wrong with your choice, it's just that Epson is good at marketing it...

What's New?

PentaxRumors aren't giving anything away..... There is the K3.3 by the way  Next development I reckon will be a K-1 Mk3 with a completely new sensor... I think we would've seen one now had there been a D860/D880 from Nikon but let's see what sensor the Nikon Z8 has and see if that makes ...

What's New?

I read this week-end that Pentax is working on a new full frame with a twist. It would be "mirrorless", but the pass thru mirror would let light go to a primary sensor with around 45 meg. for highlights, but the reflected light would shine on a secondary 12 meg. sensor which would open up shadows. ...

Pentax K3 III Monochrome

It appears that this may well be the subject of the Ricoh announcement schedule for tomorrow - an announcement appeared and was taken down very quickly, but one of the users over on the US forum captured a screengrab and has sourced images of the new adaptation of the K3III Interesting as an addi...

Pentax K3 III Monochrome

I'm guessing it's the same sensor but without the Bayer colour filter so you'll get monochrome images with effectively pixel shift resolution with a single image not 4 consecutive images needed for a colour pixel shift image. Mike

Pentax K3 III Monochrome

I don't see the pixel-shift connection. My understanding is that a monochrome sensor is all about the grey shades. I think the point is that for a single shot with the usual RGB filter in front of the light sensors, the light intensity and colour at each pixel position must be calculated as an avera...

Pentax K3 III Monochrome

Here's an interesting web page about the method and effects of the Bayer filter on resolution/sharpness. I've compared non-pixel-shift vs pixel-shift of the same subject with my K-1 and the improvement in image sharpness is certainly visible. The RAW file size is nearly 4 times (46.7 MB vs. ...
