Sensor cleaning (again)
Fresh battery, mirror up, (very careful) blasting with a rocket blower will shift a lot of it.

Sensor cleaning (again)
Morning Rob, I use an Arctic Butterfly to do mine, a brush that spins to generate static and the dust adheres to the brush, you then spin it again to throw the dust into the air, comes with a Lupe to examine the sensor. If yours is as bad as you suggest, it may need a wet clean first, but worth h...

Sensor cleaning (again)
I too use an Arctic Butterfly brush on the very rare occasion that I need to clean the sensor. I bought it when I had the Ds, and though it seemed a lot of money at the time for a twirling brush, the investment was worth it.

Sensor cleaning (again)
I end up having to clean my K-50 sensor about 2-3 times a year...maybe more noticeable because I shoot a lot of aircraft and the spots show up against the sky too easily. Had to do the same with my K-x. Must have cleaned sensor(s) about 6-7 times altogether, just use a £15 kit from Amazon with li...

I use a rocket blower followed by an Arctic butterfly ... seems to shift everything.

Sensor cleaning (again)
I use a rocket blower followed by an Arctic butterfly ... seems to shift everything. Well my sensor looked like I had sneezed after a mouthful of Weetabix, blowers and the sticky thing didn’t touch it! Anyhow it’s back from LCE now and hopefully spotless. Nigel Danson’s YouTube video of a few month...

Full frame compact - any ideas
As we specialise in Pentax on this site it's probably not the best place to ask the question. The compact of choice for Pentax users is probably the discontinued MX-1, which is not full frame but is a fantastic camera. It's highly sought after. This highlights the disappointment that Pentax failed t...

Pentax advice

Olympus
Compared with others (e.g. Olympus) perhaps the users of certain systems (e.g. Pentax) are of a demographic less likely to transfer their photographic activities to their mobile phones? Philip Real photographers?? I believe the Olympus brand will likely survive in some form as whoever it...

'starter' printer recommendations
Hi all I've generally sent my images away for printing to the likes of whitewall and as such we've only got a monochrome laser in the house for correspondence. I'm finding that I'm less inclined to spend much time editing or arranging if there's no immediate result, so I'm looking at getting a p...

Oops - HDR mode and action
Is it failing to clear the previous shot completely in some way? A sensor ghost?

Oops - HDR mode and action
Is it failing to clear the previous shot completely in some way? A sensor ghost? "When you shoot in HDR mode, the camera captures several pictures in quick succesion, each having a different exposure value. The software then combines these images into a single photo, which provides sharper details f...

Opinions invited . . .
The grass always seems greener on the other side so I'd recommend trying out other equipment before buying or selling. Some things are easily adapted to, such as zooming direction etc, others are simply worse, and you may find that a lot of things you take for granted with your Pentax gear is far...

Advice requested.
Food for thought. Thanks to all. To continue the thoughts, can I ask, is the practical difference between the 16mp and the 20mp sensors as big as might be thought (hoped)? It depends on what you photograph. And on what you think and hope . The number of mp's is only part of the story. Impr...

Lens diameter
It's a good question and as stub points out, it isn't just a matter of speed of lens or the need to squeeze in AF motors etc. The Pentax D-FA 100mm macro takes 49mm filters. The Sigma 105mm EX macro takes 58mm filters. Both are FF, screw-drive lenses. And then there is the Irix 150mm macro. Still FF...

Live View AF K3ii
PDAF uses the autofocus sensor in the base of the mirror box. It can only be used when using the viewfinder, because when in Live View the camera's mirror is up and no light is being recorded by the AF sensor. In LV the main camera sensor uses CDAF which is slower, but more accurate. You probabl...

Live View AF K3ii
The K-70 had on sensor phase detection sensors, but I'm not sure of any other pentax cameras with this. That leaves you with contrast detection only in live view. Enabling focus peaking is only for assistance during live view manual focussing, it won't help AF performance in any way.

New Ricoh GR IIIx
I saw this pop up in a FB add the other day and I was surprised to see no-one seems to have noted it here, nor is it on DPR, but it is now on the Ricoh global website. In summary the GR IIIx is the same (I imagine) as the standard GR but with a 26mm (roughly 40mm equivalent) f/2.8 lens instead of...

Decent cheap trail camera
If this quality is suitable I will root the thing out and see what it is. It cost just under £50. Looks entirely suitable for purposes I had in mind - getting the kids interested in photography and animals. I'm not quite sure what to expect in terms of IR, was half-wondering if putting together an ...
