How sensitive is your camera?

This possibly due to light transmission through the different lenses rather than any body or sensor issues... Good point, but if I put my K to Q adapter on the Q and use the same lens on both cameras I get exactly the same result, pretty sure it's differences in the sensors, it's the only thing I ca...

How sensitive is your camera?

As I understand it ISO is not an absolute, there is no S.I. unit for ISO, shutter speeds and aperture are absolutes and should be the same for all cameras. Metering technique, angle of view, metering pattern, all have a part to play. Different marques have a different reference point as well. Som...

How sensitive is your camera?

I'd imagine that there is light loss with the K/Q adapter much as there is with an extension tube. Surely the adapter just makes up for the difference in flange distances for the cameras. Total distance from lens to sensor will be the same either on a K mount DSLR, or an adapted Q mount.

How sensitive is your camera?

Centre weighted metering offers a more easily reliable method, coupled with exposure compensation where necessary. Hope that helps. I think given the decent dynamic range of modern sensors, John's advice above is sufficient. You can claw back up to 5 stops of under exposure on the K-5 so there's ...

How sensitive is your camera?

Shooting digital is a little like shooting fast reversal film, there's not a lot of headroom in the exposure, a 1/3rd of stop can make a visible difference to the amount of data collected. Maximising image quality with digital has as much, if not more, to do with the the A/D converter and bit dep...

A Mini Guide To Pentax Digital Camera Utility

A labour of love, or obession  You can decide! As promised, here is my Mini Guide to PDCU4, something I hope will be of practical use to new photographers and some more experienced shooters alike. I am aware, both from this forum and the US one that there are plenty of Pentax shooters who would...

Shooting the northern lights with my k-30

The other thing I wanted to do on this thread was give feedback to all the people who helped me out before I went on the trip. Hopefully if I just jot down a few thoughts it might help people like PaulEvans who are off to shoot the lights later this winter. For forecasts we used and the . I th...

Pentax Full Frame

Oh dear, wonder how many Full Frame topics have been started on here. Also wonder how many are repeats of a previous rumor as this one is. IMO - Pentax will not release a FF DSLR, simply because they would have to create a whole FF lens range. If they do, we will not see it for a long long long t...

Pentax Full Frame

Do you still hold this opinion even though it has been reported from reliable sources that Pentax are working on a full frame product for release after 2013? Absolutely. Hey if they release a FF, fantastic, praise the lord, can't wait! But you can't blame me for being a skeptical, particularly after...

Pentax Full Frame

Inevitable if your talking about 25 years from now when we've got in medium format quality in our mobile 'phone laptop life device tricorders' then yeah I'm sure APS-C may be gone by then. APS-C will remain for the foreseeable future for the same reasons it has succeeded. Smaller, cheaper bodies ...

Pentax Full Frame

I think FF will become more standard for dslrs, while mirrorless cameras will get the apsc sensors and displace the market for entry level dslrs. I also think compact cameras and phones will get bigger sensors as standard - e.g. 1". We're already seeing it. The pixel war is over; the sensor size war...

I think once sensor prices fall below a certain price point then product lines will be dropped, similar to CPU manufacturers. I think I am right in saying apart from Sony no camera manufacturer makes sensors so they have no interest in lens manufacture which is why APS will eventually be dropped....

........ APS-C has more perceived DOF, we know that. We also know that we could crop a FF image down, providing there were enough pixels, and still retain excellent quality. DOF is relevant to format because we use it in terms of angle of view rather than focal length. We don't see focal length...

Pentax Full Frame

Image sensor size does not change DOF Agreed, no format does. A 50mm lens is a 50mm lens, end of story. What changes is the lens required for a given field of view. So a Minox sub-miniature requires a 15mm lens as a standard lens. 15mm lenses have immense DOF when taken in this context. So the...

Pentax Full Frame

Just populating an APS-C sensor with additional photo-sites would not I believe, lead to an automatic IQ increase, all else being equal. If the quest for improved s/n ratios and extra 'clarity' continues, then FF may be the only way to go. Larger photo-sites with more light gathering abilities c...

I was suggesting there might be some advantage in fitting the same amount of data into a bigger (sensor) space!
